A very special patient just arrived this past week....a golden eagle was scooped up by the a Game Commission warden after it was hit by a car. It had severe head trauma, but after a few days, the swelling went down. X rays were normal, but bloodwork showed that he also had lead poisoning. He is being treated with pain management and chealation therapy to treat the lead. This is a small golden eagle, so we suspect that it is a male. Golden eagles are bigger than bald eagles.

Porcupine release!
This little guy came in during the fall, all the way from Wellsboro, PA, with a huge laceration on his rump. We suspect that he was hit by a vehicle. Dr. Kreger cared for him initially in Wellsboro, then sent him down to us for nursing care with a volunteer. We cared for him over the winter and, Sam (one of our rehab supervisors) just released him back into the wild. You can see in the video that the hair and quills grew back on his rump, and he is back to normal. It takes a village.

Canada Goose Release...
A caring individual found the goose in their yard for several days; it seemed reluctant to leave, raising concerns it might have been struck by a vehicle. After asking Wildlife In Need to capture and bring the bird in for examination, our veterinarian found no injuries and normal blood results. Following a period of rest and nourishing food at CWC, the goose was safely sent back into the wild.
