Leading with Trust. Empowering with Purpose.

U.S. Coast Guard East District leadership took to the skies with the elite crews of U.S. Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City for an area familiarization flight across North Carolina and offshore Virginia Beach.

Every flight and every mission reflects how the East District executes excellence by leading with professionalism and character, building trust through consistency, and caring for our team every step of the way.

Strong partnerships make our mission possible! 🛟🚁💪

U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Aviation members like Judy Redlawsk and Ron Kripas are important team members when it comes to supporting, training, and ensuring their active duty counterparts are prepared for whatever mission comes their way.

Recently, Redlawsk and Kripas assisted Air Station Atlantic City in Rotary Wing Air Intercept training where the Auxiliary helicopter played the role of an aircraft entering a no fly zone. This allowed the Air Station's MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew to practice different intercept approaches.

Along with training, Auxiliary aviation members often participate in Search and Rescue, Port Over Flights, Waterways and Coastal Security, Marine Safety, and Pollution Response missions.

Through collaboration and a shared commitment, we strengthen our ability to serve and protect!

Readiness takes practice. 🎯

Coast Guard members sharpened their marksmanship skills and maintained weapons qualifications during live-fire training at Fort George G. Meade, Maryland.

Through regular training with pistols, ri**es and sh****ns, our crews build the proficiency and confidence needed to carry out Coast Guard missions safely and effectively.

UPDATE: The Coast Guard is no longer searching for the overdue trawler “Slow Ride.” At about 6 am this morning, a local tug notified Coast Guard Sector Virginia that a vessel matching the Slow Ride’s description was spotted adrift near the Thimble Shoal Lighted Buoy 1. A Coast Guard crew launched and found the operator aboard but unresponsive. Virginia Beach Fire Department first responders quickly arrived on scene and confirmed the man was deceased. The Coast Guard towed the vessel to shore where it was transferred to Virginia Beach Police Department.

Envisioning the future together.

U.S. Coast Guard East District leadership joined U.S. Navy leaders and innovation experts at the Navy Innovation Lab at Norfolk Naval Shipyard (NNSY) this week to explore emerging technologies, exchange ideas, and strengthen partnerships between the services.

Building partnerships today builds a stronger, more capable, and more ready fleet for tomorrow.

Our friends at U.S. Coast Guard Northeast are requesting public assistance in locating an overdue vessel. The 44-foot "Slow Ride” is a white trawler with a blue stripe and a dinghy. It departed Block Island RI Wednesday Oct 7 and was expected to arrive in Norfolk VA this morning. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Coast Guard Northeast District Command Center in Boston at 866-842-1560 or at [email protected].

Cold weather is coming, and staying safe on the water starts with being prepared. 🌊

Crews at Small Boat Station Portsmouth recently conducted a routine survival swim and dry suit integrity test to make sure their cold weather gear is ready when they need it. For mariners, that same preparation matters. Water temperatures can be dangerously cold even when the air feels comfortable.

Before heading out, check your gear, dress for the water temperature and make sure you’re prepared for the conditions you may encounter.

Stay prepared. Stay ready. Stay safe!
