Hello, everyone! This page has been asleep for a while, but we're back!

Deadman Lookout is OPEN for the 2025 season! The season started July 9th and will continue until September 28th. Our volunteers have really come through and staffed every Thursday through Sunday this season.

The Tower is located 13 miles west of Red Feather Lakes on County Road 86, Deadman Road, then 2.6 miles up Forest Road 170.

Our volunteer hosts are our greatest resource! Come on up and they'll share the history of the tower, answer your questions, and point you towards outdoor opportunities in the area, all while you take in one of the most breathtaking views in Northern Colorado.

If you have already had volunteer training, please sign up for host days ASAP!

The Forest Service has announced the dates for the tower this season! Depending on snowpack, the planned opening day is July 13th. The season will run through September 30th.

Edit: Opening day is definitely July 13th! The hours will for the season will be 10am-4pm, Thursday through Sunday.

The Forest Service has made the decision to keep the Deadman Fire Tower closed to the public for the 2021 season. We hope that you will all keep us in mind and that the 2022 season will be our best yet.

Unfortunately, the lookout will not open for the 2020 season. All of the Canyon Lakes Ranger District visitor centers will remain closed this year for COVID19 safety precautions.

It's very late in the season owing to the mandated closing date of the road this year, but The Coloradoan just ran a very nice piece on the tower.

Great job, Jerry!

A fire lookout tower stretching above the Roosevelt National Forest is no longer used to spot fires.

It's almost that time again! Deadman Road is open, and the tower road is also open. Staffing is scheduled to begin July 15. Who else is super excited?

Thanks for being such great hosts today, Kari Sholtes, Lee Needham and David Cox!

Enjoyed my visit- along with the Forest archeology team, who all requested squirrel cards.
