We have issued a Flood Watch for the southern half of the area from 4 PM Sunday until 7 PM Monday. A very moist airmass will combine with slow moving thunderstorms to produce locally heavy rainfall as a cold front slowly moves south across the area. The most likely rain amounts are 1 to 2 inches, but localized amounts in excess of 5 inches are possible. This is one of those situations where not everyone in the watch will end up getting heavy rain and flooding, but locations within the watch could see high rain amounts. Remember, a Flood Watch means that conditions are favorable for flooding. It is possible that portions of a county see a half inch or less, while other portions of the county see 3 to 5 inches of rain, or possibly even more. Although the highest threat looks to be across the I-10 corridor, heavy rainfall is also possible across the Concho Valley, especially late this afternoon and evening. Keep an eye on the forecast this afternoon and evening and look for updates.

We are still on track to see a cold frontal boundary bring cooler temperatures and a chance for rain late Sunday into Monday. An isolated strong to severe thunderstorm is possible on Sunday, which would include a Marginal Risk for seeing large hail and damaging winds. We have some additional details and the outlook area posted in the graphics below.

The hot and dry weather will continue for the remainder of today and tomorrow for most locations. However, we are still tracking a cold front that brings a chance for rain and cooler conditions on Sunday and Monday. This relief from the heat is temporary, however. The heat will return with many locations potentially reaching well into the triple digits by the end of next week. We have some location specific details for you down below.

High pressure will continue to dominate the weather headlines across our area for the next few days. Hot and dry conditions will be the result through the end of this work week. Some relief may be in store for early next week. Until then, here's some heat safety tips and remainder as well as the latest temperature forecast through the next few days.

06/09/2026

Our day-to-day weather is changing very little this week, with an upper level high pressure system over Texas. Late night and morning low clouds are giving way to mostly sunny skies in the afternoons. With the low-level flow bringing moisture from the Gulf and evaporation of moisture from the rainfall in the past couple of weeks, it's humid especially in the mornings. Breezy conditions with south to southeast winds will continue especially in the daytime hours. A weak cold front may move into southwestern Oklahoma and far northwest Texas and bring a low chance (20-30%) of showers and thunderstorms to mainly the area north of I-20 Thursday night into Friday.

Yes its supposed to be hot during the summer across West Central Texas, but thanks to recent rainfall, humidity values will be unusually high as well this week. Temperatures in the 95 to 100 degree range will combine with these humidity values to push Heat Index readings into the 102-107 range this week, especially for Thursday into the Weekend. The first really good heat wave tends to catch people off guard so everyone is encouraged to remember their heat safety rules!

Upper level ridging will build over Texas this week, allowing for hot, summer-like temperatures, and little to no chance for precipitation. However, a pattern change next week may bring another chance for rain beyond the 7 day forecast.
