Two of our best recognized by the state for EMS Week!

Paramedics Justin and Brandon of STAR Ambulance Service in Clay County responded to a critical crash involving an unresponsive patient and quickly stabilized the patient for transport.

When weather grounded air medical transport, they continued care during the ground transfer to Indianapolis alongside the flight crew. Their skill, teamwork and dedication directly contributed to saving a life.

*Saved Life Alert*

Earlier this month STAR Medic 9 responded to a residence for a female patient with "dizziness." Fortunately STAR Paramedic Angel Hernandez arrived and after assessing the patient, suspected this may be a "silent MI" (a heart attack with non-traditional symptoms, often without pain). Angel performed an ECG and found his suspicions were correct.

Together with his partner Maddie Ridge, they treated and rushed the patient to Union Hospital's Cardiac Cath Lab where the patient received 4 stents opening multiple clogged arteries. Thanks to the immediate recognition, treatment, and transport, along with the expert care from the Union Hospital cardiac team this patient's life was undoubtedly saved and is now home and recovering with friends and family.

We may have a Super"STAR" on our team in Angel who is pictured here winning first place in the EMT division of the Wabash Valley EMS competition. Now a year later Angel is a Paramedic recognizing heart attacks and making a huge impact in Central Indiana.

Today members of STAR’s management team presented the Clay County Commissioners as well as the whole Clay County community with 3 brand new ambulances. This updates our entire emergency fleet with units and equipment straight off the factory floor. These units, and associated equipment, represent just shy of a one million dollar investment from STAR back to Clay County, it’s leadership, and it’s citizens.

We wish to recognize and thank Commissioners Paul Sinders, Marty Hefner, and Bryan Allender for their ongoing support and trust in our service to their constituents. They care deeply about the health and safety of the whole community and it is our honor to work alongside them to provide the people with the best care we can provide.

On February 15th of this year, our department along with STAR Ambulance was dispatched to a private residence in our township for a life-threatening emergency.

We are happy to report a positive outcome.

Earlier today that resident, (pictured in the wheelchair) stopped by our fire house to say thanks and how much she appreciated everybody’s effort in saving her life. She even treated the department to some cake, which was very delicious.

What an unexpected and amazing surprise! Thank you so much!

Yesterday and today STAR’s Paramedics received hands on training from BD Health on our new Alaris IV pumps. These top of the line devices will be carried on all our Advanced Life Support transporting units. They will allow our staff to initiate or continue any type of medication or blood infusion without the need to use other facility equipment, increasing what services we can offer to those needing critical care transportation.

STAR has begun installing Technimount Systems to all of our Advanced Life Support (ALS) units.

Our ALS ambulances transport the most critical ill and injured patients often requiring multiple medical devices such as ventilators, IV pumps, chest tubes, etc. These solid metal arms will easily and safely support our heaviest and bulkiest pieces of equipment which are our cardiac monitors, giving our paramedics greater access to our patients regardless of their position during transport.

Just another way we strive to increase the quality of care for our patients and utilize technology to ease the work for our crews.
