The Korean War Veteran story...
Helping Our Heroes has been working with this veteran for over a year, in an attempt to assist him in obtaining dental services, which he had been trying to get for decades. As we do when seeking services for our veterans, Helping Our Heroes asked local professionals if they would donate their services to assist this veteran. Upon verbal agreement, one local dental company agreed to assist and provide the services. After nearly a year, and several staffing turn-overs, the veteran finally received his dentures. Throughout the ordeal, the treatment this veteran received from the new staff varied and increasingly worsened as time went on. Upon completion, this veteran received a final bill of $1,538.00. When informed by the veteran that he was working with Helping Our Heroes, it took nearly a month for a bill to be received. When we contacted the practice, explaining how we work, and the verbal agreement from the practice, they insisted that our veteran would then be responsible for the entire amount. This is something that can not happen. We have attempted to contact the corporate office of this practice, with no return communication. Our veteran is now receiving rude phone calls and threatening letters, claiming he will be taken to court and/or collections for the total amount.
Helping Our Heroes does not have financial abilities to pay this bill, in its entirety, as that is not how our organization works. Hence, we need to plea to the community for assistance.
