REMEMBERING SEPTEMBER 11, 2001 — 25 YEARS LATER

This morning, the City of Northfield gathered at Northfield City Hall to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks and to honor the nearly 3,000 lives lost that day.

The ceremony was held in front of Northfield’s World Trade Center artifact, a powerful and permanent reminder of the lives lost, the sacrifices made, and the extraordinary courage displayed by our nation’s first responders.

Northfield Police Chief Scott Pollak spoke about the brave men and women who responded without hesitation and made the ultimate sacrifice while serving others. He also recognized the lasting impact their loss has had on their families and loved ones.

Twenty-five years later, the sacrifice continues to be felt. Many first responders who participated in the search and recovery efforts at Ground Zero continue to suffer from illnesses connected to their service, and far too many have lost their lives in the years since September 11th.

The City of Northfield received its World Trade Center artifact through the World Trade Center Artifact Program, administered by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. From 2010 through 2016, more than 2,600 artifacts recovered from the site were distributed to 1,585 fire and police departments, museums, municipalities, and organizations throughout the country. Each artifact serves as a reminder to future generations of the lives lost and the heroism displayed that day.

The Northfield Police Department sincerely thanks everyone who attended this morning’s ceremony and joined us in honoring the victims, their families, and the American heroes who answered the call on September 11th.

Twenty-five years later, we remember.

On August 30, 2022, the Northfield Police Department and the City of Northfield community received devastating news that Patrolman Jonathan Scull had passed away.

Jonathan, the lasting impact you had on all of us at the Police Department and everyone you met, cannot be put into words. We still talk about memories of you to this day.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Scull family and everyone who knew Jonathan.

Jonathan continue to watch our backs as we continue to serve our community with the same honor and dedication as you did in your time with us.

🏈 Cops, Coaches & Cardinals! 🏈

Northfield Police officers hit the field for a Coaches vs. Cops & Players Flag Football Game during the Northfield Cardinals Annual Season Kickoff Barbecue! 🚔🏈

It was a great night of football, food, and friendly competition as we helped the Cardinals kick off another season. We’re always happy to get out on the field and spend time with the players, coaches, families, and community.

The Mainland Mustangs Football Team was out today hosting a car wash fundraiser! 🚗💦

It’s always great to see our student-athletes working together and getting support from the community. We’re proud to support the Mustangs and wish them a great season ahead!

A purr-fect ending to an unusual call for service.

When this curious cat found itself stuck high in a tree, our officers called in some reinforcements. A big thank you to Yoos Tree Service for answering the call and helping bring our four-legged resident safely back down to earth.

We’re grateful to have local businesses that are always willing to step up when our community needs a hand — or a lift! 🌳🐾💙

National Night Out was a great evening of community, conversation, and connection! 🇺🇸💙

Thank you to everyone who came out to spend the night with us. It was wonderful meeting so many residents, answering questions, and seeing families enjoy the event.

A special thank you to all of our community partners, volunteers, and everyone who helped make the evening a success. Events like these strengthen the relationships that make Northfield such a great place to live.
