She and her college sweetheart, Tyler Kelley, are licensed foster parents who have welcomed children ranging from infancy to age 10 into their home. Kelley also works as a senior philanthropic adviser at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and founded Foster Footprints to support foster youth and families throughout the DMV area.

Meet Sam🤍

Sara “Sam” is thoughtful, creative, and loves art, music, poetry, reading, writing songs, and fashion. She’s caring, loyal, and loves being part of a group. Sam thrives with consistency and structure and is looking for a family where she can feel safe, supported, and truly at home.

She has so much creativity and love to give, and we hope the right family will come along to help her continue to grow and flourish. Could you be part of Sam’s story?

We had a great afternoon at Foster/Adoptive/Kinship Diversity Care Resource Fair

Thank you to Katherine Schulz Law, Adoption and Family Law for hosting us! They provided amazing snacks and a fun scavenger hunt for the kids!

The Giving Tree of NKY had clothing and necessities available.

Sweet Frances Salon & Ear Piercings did hair demonstrations and gave children and families product recommendations.

Thanks to our community donations and support we were able to provide free hair care items to all that attended. Ms. Frances helped each child and family get the tools and products that would work best for their hair.

FAPA of NKY also provided free books to all that attended.

It was an incredible day of community, connection, and support for children in care and the families who care for them. We truly enjoyed meeting everyone and discovering new ways we can work together to better meet the needs of our families.

Young people tell us they are not seeking charity or special treatment. They are asking for relationships alongside resources. A checkbox on the FAFSA form is not enough. What helps is a caring adult who explains the checkbox, sits with a young person to complete the application and encourages them through the process. It is someone willing to run a mock interview before a job-training program or apprenticeship they are pursuing.

For a young person leaving foster care, mentors, volunteers and other adults in the community can be the difference between isolation and belonging.
