Rio Grande Food Project Rio Grande Food Project is a Food Pantry, Urban Garden and Community Hub, providing food distribution

Rio Grande Food Project (RGFP) is a Food Pantry, Urban Garden and Community Hub working to alleviate hunger and cultivate long-term food security in our communities. Located in a “food desert” on Albuquerque’s westside, RGFP provides free groceries every week on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 9:00-11:00am or until supplies last. RGFP also distributes food to partner non-profits that serve high-risk hard-to-reach, vulnerable populations. Beyond emergency food distribution, RGFP is a Community Hub where people connect with social service providers, learn about community resources and opportunities, and get help enrolling in important food security programs like SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program); all aimed at improving household circumstances to reduce and prevent hunger. The Community Hub shares job search and training opportunities, enrolls guests in utility and water bill assistance programs, partners to share nutrition and cooking education, emergency cell phones and internet access, and distributes free books to kids of all ages. The RGFP Urban Garden is cared for by community volunteers and staff and provides fruits and vegetables for immediate distribution as a supplement to locally grown, donated, and purchased produce. The Urban Garden provides a space where clients grow food and learn about nutrition and healthy food choices.

Lawn games, awesome raffle prizes, juggling, an inflatable obstacle course and slide, partner activities, yummy food and a heart-healthy walk - all to address our community’s basic food needs.

Rio Grande Food Project’s 11th Annual Hike to End Hunger fundraising campaign is in full swing and runs until October 31st and our Hike Event & Community Festival is on Saturday, October 17th.

All individual donations will be MATCHED by the Abram and Ray Kaplan Foundation up to $50,000 so your donation will be DOUBLED to help us provide groceries to over 1,300 kids, adults, and seniors every single week.

Join us for our FREE Hike to End Hunger Event & Community Festival for a fun morning of lawn games, partner activities, face painting, inflatable obstacle course and slide, raffle items, local food, an an optional heart healthy walk to one of the best views in the city:

We are launching another free cooking and nutrition class series with our partners ICAN!

Classes start this Wednesday with English and Spanish alternating every week. Complete 6 of the 8 classes and receive a gift!

Plus, our final 2 garden cooking classes with Sprouting Kitchen are this Friday, October 9th and Wednesday, October 21st from 9:00-11:00am - in the garden!
