The Merced County Rapid Extraction Module Support (REMS) Team recently returned from its first-ever deployment, providing mutual aid during the Biscar Fire near Susanville, California.
This historic assignment marks a major milestone for the team and reflects the training, professionalism, and readiness of its members.
REMS is a highly specialized, pre-staged rescue resource dedicated to the rapid and safe extraction of firefighters who become injured or ill while operating on the fireline. These teams are prepared to respond immediately to firefighter emergencies, providing advanced rescue capabilities in some of the most challenging and hazardous environments.
The successful deployment to the Biscar Fire demonstrates Merced County’s commitment to firefighter safety and our ability to support wildfire operations across California.
We’re proud of the Merced County REMS Team for answering the call, representing our county with distinction, and helping protect the men and women battling California’s wildfires. 💪🚒

At Merced County, protecting our communities is a shared responsibility. Working alongside CAL FIRE Law Enforcement and Merced County Sheriff’s Office, we remain committed to proactive enforcement and fire prevention efforts that help keep our neighborhoods safe.
During a recent operation, officers seized illegal dangerous fireworks, destructive devices, and materials used to manufacture destructive devices before they could pose a threat to public safety.
Modifying, combining, or repacking fireworks isn’t just making a bigger firework—it can legally turn it into a destructive device. That can elevate a fireworks violation into a serious felony offense with much harsher penalties, including prison time.
Celebrate responsibly this holiday and leave the fireworks to the professionals. It’s simply not worth the risk.
