We initiated three at three Massachusetts post offices to review efficiency of certain processes at each. Our auditors found common across the three locations, which helped identify at-risk transactions. Determining whether the process for maintaining delivery points and other route information in the Address Management System is timely and accurate.
Evaluating a) USPS data models used to determine sites for conversion of small facilities into larger regional hubs, b) cost/savings impacts associated with the conversions, and c) how those plans were communicated externally and internally.

Their investigation was the largest of its kind in the Southern District of Indiana, resulting in a direct financial impact in excess of $100 million. It involved a health care provider and multiple co-conspirators engaged in a large-scale, complex, criminal scheme to defraud private insurance providers and the U.S. Department of Labor.

The Postal Service met a daunting challenge of rapidly distributing COVID-19 test kits to millions of Americans and properly accounting for program costs. But costs and estimates were not always fully supported in monthly reports, and management did not always follow established policies and procedures. How is mail service doing in Alaska? Alaska has a scattered population across its large geography; therefore, the Postal Service uses air carriers to deliver mail to a lot of the communities in the state that are not accessible by road.
OIG auditors identified deficiencies related to mail movement and to accuracy and timeliness of air carrier payments.
We made seven recommendations, and Postal Service management agreed with five.
