🗳️ Heading into the St. Charles County Executive election (primary), it’s important to vote with purpose; not just headlines!
Don’t get too carried away with endorsements (or campaign noise). They can be ego boosters, sometimes reflect relationships or favors returned (nothing wrong), not always a clear picture of a candidate’s qualifications or how they’ll govern.
Instead:
✔️ Understand what the County Executive role actually does
✔️ Learn what authority this office has
✔️ Research the candidates and the issues
✔️ Make a voting plan and encourage neighbors to participate
The County Executive is responsible for overseeing county operations such as roads and infrastructure, planning and zoning, public works and the overall county budget. They work with the County Council to set policies and guide growth and development across the region.
However, many services people interact with every day are managed separately. School districts, fire protection districts, ambulance districts, library systems, community college, municipalities, etc., each have their own elected boards and funding sources. Decisions about those services are made independently of county government.
When you hear discussions about taxes, development, or public services, it can be helpful to consider three key questions:
1) What level of government is responsible?
2) What authority does that office actually have?
3) How would a proposed change realistically be carried out?
St. Charles County is one of the fastest-growing areas in Missouri, which brings both opportunities and challenges. Topics like housing, infrastructure, economic development and maintaining quality of life are all part of ongoing community conversations, almost like discussions related to Cottleville I would say.
Just this April, Cottleville had less than 10% voter turnout. Yet when it comes to complaining (in social media though), the numbers are staggering. If we want our voices to be heard, we have to show up.
