League of Women Voters - Milwaukee County

League of Women Voters - Milwaukee County Empowering Voters. Defending Democracy.

We believe:

in respect for individuals;

in the value of diversity;

in the empowerment of the grassroots, both within the League and in communities;

in representative government and in individual liberties established in the Constitution of the United States;

that democratic government depends upon the informed and active participation of its citizens and requires that governmental bodies prot

ect the citizen’s right to know by giving adequate notice of proposed actions, holding open meetings, and making public records accessible;

that every citizen should be protected in the right to vote, that every person should have access to free public education which provides equal opportunity for all, that no person or group should suffer legal, economic, or administrative discrimination;

that efficient and economical government requires competent personnel, clear assignment of responsibility, adequate financing, and coordination among different agencies and levels of government;

that cooperation with other nations is essential in the search for solutions to world problems, and that development of international organizations and international law is imperative in the promotion of world peace.

The League of Women Voters Milwaukee County's Reproductive Rights advocacy group had a booth at Humboldt Park Milwaukee's Chill on the Hill last week.

Had a total blast helping Milwaukeeans add their voice to our "Garland of Choice." People shared their hopes, values and messages regarding reproductive freedom and tied their messages to colorful ribbons.

We will deliver our exhibit "Garland of Choice" circling our State Capitol in January 2027 when we celebrate our new Legislature.

Look for the League at events all around Milwaukee, and join the League of Women Voters Milwaukee County!

This month we really enjoyed holding our annual meeting at Wantable Cafe . We listened to keynote speaker TR Edwards of Law Forward and enjoyed delicious lunch by 41Fork Hospitality while hearing other LWVMC leaders review our past program year accomplishments as well as laying out plans for our next year of strengthening democracy and empowering voters in Milwaukee County. Tag your favorite defenders of democracy to join us in thanking everyone involved in making this event and our whole program year a success.

On June 19, 1865, Union General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas, to announce the end of slavery, nearly two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation. Juneteenth marks this long-overdue moment of liberation.
