NOTICE OF PROJECT PLANNING PUBLIC HEARING

The Township of AuSable will hold a public hearing on the proposed Drinking Water State Revolving Fund Project Plan for the purpose of receiving comments from interested persons.

The hearing will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 24, 2023, at the AuSable Township Hall located at 4420 North U.S.23, Au Sable Michigan, 48750.

The purpose of the proposed project is to provide high quality drinking water where PFAS concentrations have been found in groundwater. Distribution system looping is proposed to eliminate dead ends to increase reliability and water quality. In addition, new water meters are proposed to be installed.

Impacts of the proposed project will be providing a reliable source of high-quality drinking water eliminating the public health risks associated with PFAS and dead end watermains. Short term construction related impacts include increased noise and dust that will be temporary in nature during construction of the improvements.

The estimated cost to the users for the proposed project will be dependent upon final Project Scope, Project Costs, potential Grants and or Principal Forgiveness awards.

Copies of the plan detailing the proposed project are available for inspection at the Township Hall located at 4420 North U.S.23, Au Sable Michigan, 48750.

Written comments received before the meeting record is closed on Wednesday, May 24, 2023 will be included in the final project planning document. Written comments should be sent to AuSable Township. AuSable Township mailing address is 4420 North U.S.23, Au Sable Michigan, 48750.

Exploration Trail Update: Due to the construction of the new sewer line along US 23, a portion of the bike path needed to be re-surveyed and engineered.
Engineers Update May 5, 2022:
**Topo survey will be wrapped up next week. Our crews have been depleted a bit in the last few weeks due to staff being sick.
**The wetlands will be flagged on or before May 20; required for the EGLE permit.
**Continuing to work on the EGLE permit
**Design will begin within a few days of the topo being done
**Construction anticipated for Spring of 2023

The total cost to build this section of the trail is estimated at $3,115,142.00. Funding at this time totals $2,789,335.00, leaving the Township responsible for approximately $326,115,000.00. We will be out pounding the pavement for donations this summer and would appreciate any contribution offered.

FRIGID TEMPERATURES & FREEZING PIPES!

Given the recent winter temperatures our area has been experiencing , the following can be done as possible preventative and proactive measures. It is a good idea to take a kitchen thermometer and let your cold-water faucet run to see your temperature. 3.33 degrees Celsius (38 degrees Fahrenheit) is considered a freezing point.
If you feel it is necessary to run your water to prevent service pipes from freezing, customers should follow these guidelines:

• Run water at the lowest pressure that a steady stream forms. Running water is no guarantee that pipelines will not freeze in all situations but is believed to be a helpful preventive measure. Run the water where damage will be minimal should the drain become plugged.
• Open a tap completely for two to three minutes at least twice each day. Before retiring and first thing in the morning usually are the most beneficial times. Check the continuously running tap several times each day to make certain it is not closed accidentally or by vibration. Placing a sign near the tap as a reminder for guest and children isa good idea.
• DO NOT use a hose or piping to connect a tap directly into the drain. This creates a cross-connection, a potentially serious health hazard.
• If your home will be unattended for more than twenty-four hours, have a friend or neighbor check it daily and fully open the tap for several minutes.
NOTE: No credit is available on water bills for water used to prevent freezing. This is strictly voluntary and will result in additional water usage and, therefore, slightly higher water bills.
