Today is , and at the Palm Beach County Water Utilities Department, we are celebrating the incredible students who bring fresh energy, talent, and dedication to our team.
We are proud to shine the spotlight on Joshua, an Engineering Intern (FRS Tech) who has been making a major impact! Joshua first discovered our internship opportunities on the https://discover.pbcgov.org/waterutilities/Pages/Jobs.aspx. Fast forward to today, and he is officially a senior at Florida Atlantic University, majoring in Mechanical Engineering!
Working within the utility, Joshua has seen firsthand how his engineering mind connects with real-world operations:
"My experience at PBCWUD has been great. I have had the opportunity to learn a lot and develop skills that will benefit me in my career. One of the best pieces of advice I have received here is that technical knowledge is only one part of being successful. I’ve learned how projects are managed, how a professional workplace operates, and how crucial communication and organization truly are."

As he gears up for graduation, Joshua highly recommends the PBCWUD experience to his fellow classmates:

"It is a great opportunity to gain real-world experience, learn how a professional workplace operates, and develop skills beyond the technical side of your degree."

Thank you, Joshua, for your hard work and commitment!

Happy National Intern Day to Ashley, a member of our PBCWUD team who has been interning with us for the last six months! Ashley is a student at FAU majoring in Environmental Engineering, and she was recently accepted into the BS/MS program to pursue her master’s in civil engineering. With a strong passion for water sustainability, she’s been bringing her drive and curiosity to our department every day. We caught up with Ashley to hear about her internship experience and her big dreams for the future:
"I have had a great learning experience so far at PBCWUD with amazing, intelligent, and helpful people. Engineering school is very difficult, and a mind-opening piece of advice I have received here is that no matter how difficult things get, keep going, stay motivated, and never be scared to ask for help—teamwork is key."

Ashley, we are so incredibly thankful to have you on the team, and we know you're going to do big things for the future of engineering!

- Om, a Finance major at the University of Central Florida (UCF), heard about our program from a friend and knew it would be the perfect opportunity to dive into the professional world. With eyes set on pursuing a master’s degree or stepping into a role at an investment firm after graduation, Om has been making the most of every moment here over the last two months. When asked about the most impactful part of the experience so far, Om shared a vital piece of advice received right here at PBCWUD: "You should always give everything you do 100% effort, regardless of whether you are confident or not."
We love that mindset! Om adds that the experience has been so positive and rewarding that recommending a PBCWUD internship to friends and peers is a no-brainer.
Thank you, Om, for your hard work, fresh perspectives, and dedication to our utility this summer. You are exactly why we celebrated National Intern Day!

Great leadership is all about bringing calm and clarity right when a community needs it most! That’s exactly how Utility Line Crew Chief Jean stepped up, delivering stellar service and peace of mind to the residents we serve.
A customer recently wrote in to share: "Throughout this process, Jean has consistently demonstrated a high level of professionalism, knowledge, and dedication... What has impressed us most is Jean's willingness to keep us informed every step of the way. His communication and responsiveness provided us with confidence and reassurance during what can often be a stressful situation."

While Jean is honored by the recognition, he knows that true success is always a team effort. Jean wanted to pass the praise right along to the incredible crew standing with him:
"I am so grateful for the kind words from the community, but I couldn't do any of this without my team," Jean says. "Their hard work, expertise, and late hours are what really solved the problem. This recognition belongs to all of us."

Let's give a massive shout-out to Jean and the entire crew to show what true public service, dedication, and teamwork look like!

This World Nature Conservation Day, we are celebrating a historic nesting season at Wakodahatchee Wetlands thanks to Shelly Rozenberg (Audubon Everglades) Purple Martin Conservation Coordinator) and Cooper (PBCWUD Environmentalist II)! Their incredible teamwork brought in the highest number of estimated Purple Martin fledglings in all of Palm Beach County.

Across eight weekly checks between March 23 and June 9, eggs were laid in all 72 gourds, meaning an amazing 289 babies are estimated to fledge this season.

"Purple Martins rely exclusively on human-supplied housing to breed so every single Purple Martin that exists today owes its life to people who cared enough to put up housing,” Shelly said.

With just a couple of late-nester families left to take flight, it is clear the martins absolutely love Wakodahatchee! To learn more about the wetlands and plan your visit, click here for more info: https://discover.pbcgov.org/waterutilities/Pages/Wetlands.aspx
