Fun times at the ranch!
Glossy snakes are primarily nocturnal and eat mostly lizards, rodents, and sometimes other snakes!

My rule with kids and snakes is that they are never allowed to touch one unless they ask an adult permission first. Allowing kids to safely handle non-venomous snakes rids them of that curiosity factor that could one day get them hurt when they go to touch the wrong snake.

Whenever I go out for a property inspection for someone that lives in a place where they will more than likely run into a rattlesnake again, I’ll bring a few snakes (venomous and non) to educate the homeowner on behavior patterns, safe deterrence methods, and at times train them on the proper use of snake handling tools if interested. The only good snake is a live snake, you don’t have to kill them for existing; they do much more good than harm. This was a beautiful piece of property all the way in Art, Tx on the Llano River!

One of the many animals we have and possibly the most unique is a Leachie gecko, my daughter saved up quite a bit of money for him and he’s been a lot of fun. He’s still young and can more than double in size! They are found in the wild on a small group of islands in the South Pacific called Caledonia.

Throwback Thursday!

Alivia taught a Texas Snake Class when she was 10yrs old and it drew quite the crowd haha. She’s amazing.

Whoopsies!
I’ve probably caught over 1000 water snakes in my lifetime and only this once have I not been struck at in the process. 😂 To most people, every snake in the water is a cottonmouth but where I live especially, the majority of snakes found in our rivers and lakes are one of two main non-venomous species, plain-bellied water snake and the diamondback water snake. As much as I personally wish I could “play” it is safest for the animals and the general public that park rangers prohibit interactions with wildlife.

Red touch yellow, kill a fellow…
That rhyme's done more damage than the snake ever has! Simply leave them be and you’re all good.
