Upper Black Eddy Canoe Parade

Has it really been 10 years since we've had a canoe parade?!!! As I understand it the canal is dry and there's no plan for it to be repaired in the near future (please correct me if I'm wrong). Is anyone interested in a decorated bike parade along the canal path since we can't canoe it? Maybe a picnic at Berm if the Drustrups would like to have us?

Well, it's been 2 1/2 weeks since I asked if anyone could help in organizing the canoe parade. So far there have been no takers, so I guess there won't be a canoe parade again this year. Let me know if anyone wants to step up to the plate. I don't have time to plan these any more.

Would anyone like to plan a canoe parade for Sunday, September 11th, 2016? I believe the canal is full enough to paddle, however I have far too much on my plate for September and October to pull it together myself. I still have the dragon heads and tails in my attic and can deliver them to the parade. If anyone wants to step up to the plate to arrange put-in and put-out points, contact the Drustrups about picnicking at their place, acquire a port-o-potty or two, nominate judges, solicit prizes from local businesses, and acquire canoes from Bucks County River Country please post here. The canal is dry now - but it MIGHT be watered this summer. Anyone feeling inspired to clear dead tree branches and such?

Folks, there is no water in the canal. Sadly, we will have to cancel again this year. :(

Not again. :( It seems highly unlikely that the water will be back in time for the parade. If we can't float, shall we just have the community picnic at Berm Lane anyway?

Here's the reason that the water level has been dropped in the north. PennDOT will soon begin removing this huge volume of rock that was dumped into the Canal to quickly stabilize Route 611 just south of Locks 22/23 aka Groundhog Lock. In order to remove the rock and install soldier pile wall that will not encroach upon the canal prism, the contractor has to work from the Canal and the Canal cannot have water in it. The project may take up to four months to complete. The Park intends to maintain water from Easton to Locks 22/23 and accomplish many fix-it projects while the water is out. Also a pump is being re-installed at Durham to pull water from the River into the Canal.
