This week’s throwback picture features a DOC Honor Guard drill team posing with the first place plaque after winning the annual drill competition in Washington D.C. The competition is held the first weekend of May every year at the National Law Enforcement Officers’ Memorial.

PGDOC had a great time this evening at the Elevate Your Game County Government Field Day. Our team, Lockdown Legends, had fun competing against our partner agencies in a variety of games.

Thank you to all of the staff members who came out to support and shoutout to all the members of the Lockdown Legends! We look forward to returning to the competition next year.

Our final Pencil Box Project distribution was conducted this morning at Gaywood Elementary School. PGDOC dropped off more than 100 bookbags filled with school supplies and cheered the incoming students on as they arrived for the first day of school.

Thank you again to all of our staff whose donations made the 2026 Pencil Box Project a success. The Department raised $2,557 during the fundraising campaign which culminated in the purchase of 288 bookbags filled with school supplies.

These supplies were dispersed among Riverdale Elementary School, John Bayne Elementary School and Gaywood Elementary School students. Thank you again to our staff for donating and for going out to the schools to engage with the community and let them see who the Department of Corrections is and what this agency is all about.

The Prince George’s Department of Corrections distributed more than 100 bookbags to John H Bayne Elementary School students to help them start the school year off on a good foot. Each bookbag was filled with school supplies.

Thank you to all of the PGDOC staff for donating towards the 2026 Pencil Box Project and helping us meet our goal to provide bookbags to three local Elementary Schools.

For those who missed it, bookbags and supplies were distributed to Riverdale Elementary students last week. The final Pencil Box Project distribution is scheduled for tomorrow morning.

Happy National Senior Citizens Day!!!

Here’s more photos from our Bingo With CO’s at Bowie Senior Center in celebration of the national observation. DOC staff enjoyed meeting everyone at the center and we will definitely be back. Thank you to Bowie Senior Center for the opportunity to engage with county residents.

Every year, August 21 is recognized as National Senior Citizens Day.

PGDOC and Director Clark celebrated the day by hosting “Bingo with Correctional Officers” at the Bowie Senior Center. There were a variety of prizes for the participants to win to include towels, blankets, detergent, gift cards and reusable shopping bags.

Through staff donations, the 2026 Pencil Box Project generated enough funds to provide bookbags filled with school supplies to three local elementary schools. For those who don’t know, the Pencil Box Project is an annual fundraiser where PGDOC raises the funds needed to provide local elementary school students with the resources needed to have a strong start to the school year.

The first of these three distributions was held at Riverdale Elementary School this morning. PGDOC staff members handed out more than 140 bookbags filled with school supplies to incoming students.

Thank you to everybody who donated to this year’s Pencil Box Project and shoutout to our staff members who passed out the bookbags this morning at Riverdale Elementary School. Stay tuned for updates about our remaining two Pencil Box Project distributions.
