We've done our Homework on the K-1 Center too! The right answer to the problem is, it's not a Democrat or Republican issue. It's an issue of not staying focused on one goal and wasting millions of taxpayer dollars in the process.
Just to make our position clear, since many have asked us, we are against the construction of a K-1 center in RTMSD. However, we are in full support of implementing full-day kindergarten in RTMSD. There are cost-effective ways to achieve full-day kindergarten in the district that we go over below.
🏫 In fact, the district could have had full-day kindergarten by now if they had simply followed the 2018 study that had recommended increasing the size of some of our existing elementary schools. We also could've had full-day Kindergarten if the district had found an appropriate location in build the Edgmont school that wasn't opposed by residents, there were other locations in Edgmont that were already zoned for a school and its construction would've been cheaper in the long-run and once again... we'd have full-day kindergarten right now. Instead, our district leadership has continued to change its plans for the past seven years until now and we still don't have full-day kindergarten.
There have been millions of dollars wasted by this district for consulting fees, going back and forth with different designs for six years now. When if we'd just expanded some of our elementary schools or added an elementary school, both more cost-effective than building an $84 million+ K-1 Center, we would have full-day kindergarten today.
Our school board ticket is committed to stopping this back and forth. We want to accommodate the growth in our district by either adding on to the existing schools or building a new elementary school to preserve our neighborhood school model. Elect our ticket on Nov. 4th!
