FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Update on Moratorium

In July, Upper Sandusky City Council approved a six-month moratorium on new data center development, providing the City with time to review its existing planning and zoning regulations.

During the moratorium, the Upper Sandusky Planning Commission is reviewing the City's existing regulations relating to high resource demand development and considering whether changes or additional standards may be appropriate. City officials are gathering information, consulting with appropriate experts and other communities, and reviewing issues involving infrastructure, natural resources, and other potential impacts to assist Planning Commission in that process.

The goal of this review is to determine whether the City's regulations should be strengthened by establishing a clear definition and appropriate standards for High Resource Demand Facilities. Any proposed changes will be discussed by Planning Commission through its normal public meeting process and, if recommended, will proceed through the applicable public review and approval process.

The City intends to use the moratorium period to carefully evaluate these issues and develop a clear, fair, and well-informed framework for addressing high resource demand development while protecting the long-term interests, resources, infrastructure, and quality of life of the community.

Mayor / Planning Commission Chair
