Beginning tomorrow, The Victim Assistance Program will have limited office hours where the advocate will be in the office. However, the advocate will be accessible during the week, Monday through Friday, 8:30 to 4:30 by phone at 419-294-9900. **PLEASE call the number above before coming to the office.**
Many hearings are being continued/rescheduled. I will be contacting Victims and notifying them of any changes privately and individually.

Paul A. Huffman, of Upper Sandusky, was found to be a Tier III S*x Offender who will be required to register every 90 days for his lifetime. Mr. Huffman was sentenced to a minimum of 10 years to life in prison at a hearing in the Wyandot County Common Pleas Court on a single charge of R**e, a felony of the 1st degree. Mr. Huffman was advised of his right to appeal and then remanded to the jail to await transportation to the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction with credit for 93 days while awaiting sentencing.

Kenneth P. Schaade, of Tiffin, was sentenced today to 7 years in prison at a hearing in the Wyandot County Common Pleas Court on a single charge of Attempted Involuntary Manslaughter, a felony of the 2nd degree. The charge stemmed from an overdose that occurred in September of 2018 in the Village of Sycamore. Mr. Schaade was advised of his right to appeal and then remanded to the jail to await transportation to the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction.

Larae Brand, of Carey, was sentenced today to 30 months in prison at a hearing in the Wyandot County Common Pleas Court on a single charge of Complicity to Burglary, a felony of the 3rd degree. Ms. Brand was also ordered to pay $371.35 in Restitution for a home invasion that occurred in June of 2019 in the Village of Carey. Ms. Brand was advised of her right to appeal and then remanded to the jail to await transportation to the Women's Correctional facility in Marysville.

In a hearing this morning, Aaron Putnam changed his plea and was sentenced on a single count of Theft in Office, a felony of the 5th degree. He was sentenced to 2 years of community control, 180 days in the Wyandot County Jail with 150 stayed, 60 hours of community service, $78 in restitution, a monthly supervisory fee, and court costs. A 12 month prison sentence was reserved should he fail to abide by his probation. Mr. Putnam was remanded to the jail to begin his 30 days.

In a hearing this morning, Michael Gossman of Upper Sandusky, entered a plea of Guilty to a count of R**e, a felony of the 1st degree. The State of Ohio made a recommendation of incarceration of 15 years to life. Additionally, Mr Gossman will be designated a Tier III S*x Offender, requiring registration every 90 days for his lifetime. Bond was revoked pending a Pre-Sentence investigation. Mr. Gossman was remanded to await sentencing.

In a hearing this afternoon, Kenneth P. Shaade, plead Guilty to a count of Attempted Involuntary Manslaughter, a felony of the 2nd degree. The charge stems from an overdose death in September 2018. The Court accepted the plea and ordered a pre-sentence investigation. Bond was revoked and Mr. Schaade was remanded to the Wyandot County Jail to await sentencing.

In a hearing this morning in the Common Pleas Court, Paul Huffman of Upper Sandusky, entered a Guilty plea to a single count of R**e, a felony of the 1st degree. A Pre-Sentence Investigation was ordered and sentencing will be held once that report is filed with the Court. Bond was revoked and Mr. Huffman was remanded to the Wyandot County Jail to await a sentencing date.

In a decision received from the Third District Court of Appeals today, the appeals court upheld the Sentence of James E. Bennett. Mr. Bennett was found to be a Tier II S*x Offender requiring him to register every 180 days for 25 years. The two years in the custody of the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections is ordered to immediately begin. Mr. Bennett is currently in the custody of the Wyandot County Sheriff to await transportation to the institution.

In a hearing today, Aaron Schatzinger was sentenced to the maximum term of 8 years in prison on a charge of Corrupting Another with Drugs, a felony of the 2nd degree. He was found guilty in a jury trial held in early October. He was also sentenced to a term of 9 months in prison for a Possession of Drugs charge, a felony of the 5th degree, to run concurrent with each other.
The charges stem from the December 2017 fatal overdose of Mr. Schatzinger's girlfriend.
The defendant was remanded to the WCSO to await transportation to the institution. He will receive 47 days credit for days spent incarcerated awaiting disposition.

10/18/2019

In a hearing in the Common Pleas Court, Mark Shearer was sentenced to a prison sentence of a minimum of 7 and a maximum of 10 1/2 years on a count of Felonious Assault and 24 months on a count of Tampering with Evidence, to be run consecutive to one another. Mr. Shearer will receive 160 day credit towards that sentence for time spent in the jail awaiting disposition. Mr. Shearer will be mandatorily supervised by the Adult Parole Authority for a period of 3 years upon his release from ODRC. Bond was ordered released and Mr. Shearer was remanded to await transport to the institution.
