National EMS Week day 5: EMS Recognition Day. These individuals made a decision to serve their community in an incredibly selfless way. The training and education was hard but the real calls, real emotions, and real fatigue are harder. But, they wouldn’t have it any other way.
Courtney Huckins - EMT, Brianna Wilder - EMT, Gina Ravine - Paramedic, Martin Ravine - EMT, Ken Maston - Paramedic, Amy Donner - AEMT, Tiffony Bondora Riehemann - AEMT, Kristy Ty Kennedy - Ambulance Driver Extraordinaire.
Of course they couldn’t do what they do without the support of their families and employers!

EMS Week 2026 Improving Outcomes, Together
Thursday’s Topic: Save-A-Life
The purpose is “to promote Stop the Bleed, public CPR programs and other programs. It doesn’t matter how quickly EMS professionals get to a scene—bystanders will almost always be there first. Save-A-Life Day empowers the general public to learn and apply steps that can be taken to help save a life.” - EMS Week

National EMS week’s theme this year is Improving Outcomes, Together. Wednesday’s topic is EMSC (Emergency Medical Services for Children).
THEY’RE NOT JUST SMALL ADULTS. Children’s anatomy and physiology differ greatly from that of an adult. They have larger heads and smaller torso’s, softer bones, less developed immune systems, and in a crisis their body can compensate so well that you may not notice there’s a problem until they’ve exhausted all of their energy stores and that compensatory mechanism quits in a big and fast way.
EMSC is a wonderful program that educates clinicians and provides pediatric tools and kits from time-to-time. The majority of our pediatric supplies have come from this wonderful program.

EMS Week Day 2 topic: EMS Safety

“To promote Safety for the EMS professional, the patient, and the public, Safety Day encourages first responders to focus on risk and prevention rather than possible negative outcomes and aims to advance safety measures for both the community and the profession. This is a great day to highlight stress reduction, self-care, and mental health awareness programs… improved situational awareness, driving and roadway safety, vehicle and device maintenance, proper lifting techniques, or violence awareness.” - EMS WEEK

National EMS week’s theme this year is Improving Outcomes, Together. Monday’s topic is Education. EMS is constantly changing along with new science and technology. EMT’s and Paramedics are required to get certain amounts of continuing education in order to renew their license every 2 years. Because EMS is its own cog in the wheel of healthcare as far as never working in a controlled environment like a hospital it is imperative that providers stay on top of changes and advancements. Rural NE Wyoming also routinely mutual aids with neighboring EMS Services and Air Ambulances. That is why it is so important for all providers to stay up to date in order to collaborate and offer the best and most timely patient care.
Never stop learning. Always be open to new scientific data and research and apply it logically. The day you think you know it all is the day you should hang it up.
