The Urbana Fire Division would like to congratulate Probationary Firefighter (PFF) Burghardt on the successful completion of his two-week onboarding and his assignment to B Shift.

During his orientation, PFF Burghardt shadowed the Urbana Police Division, Dispatch, the Sheriff’s Office, Public Works, Community Paramedic services, and the Urbana Mercy Emergency Room. This cross-departmental shadowing allowed him to see firsthand how all of these agencies are connected and work together to serve and assist our community.

He was also introduced to shift operations and started his yearlong training in The Urbana Fire Division’s approach to fighting fires and saving lives.

The Urbana Fire Division extends its sincere appreciation to Pastor Tim West for delivering the opening prayer, to Mayor Bean for officiating today's swearing-in ceremony, and to Box 13 for providing refreshments.

Earlier this week, we had the pleasure of welcoming some of our youngest community members from the Center for Creative Child Care to The Urbana Fire Division!

During their visit, the children toured the firehouse, met our firefighters, learned important fire safety tips, and even left with a few fun fire safety goodies.

We always enjoy opening our doors to the community and helping children become more comfortable around firefighters while teaching them how to stay safe.

If your school, daycare, or community group would like to schedule a firehouse visit, give us a call at **937-652-4371**, Monday through Friday, between **8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.** We'd love to have you visit!

Structure Fire Response – South High Street

At approximately 1837 this evening, The Urbana Fire Division (UFD) A Shift responded to a reported fire in a structure in the 1000 block of South High Street. The initial response included Battalion 1 (B1), Engine 1, and Medic 2. Through automatic mutual aid, Engine 111 from the West Liberty Fire Department also responded and B1 asked for an additional engine from JSP Fire.

All UFD units arrived on scene at 1841, where B1 reported smoke coming from the residence. The incident was upgraded to a working fire, command was established, and crews initiated an interior fire attack. Command reported water on the fire at 1844, and the fire was declared under control at 1855.

One occupant was evaluated at the scene for injuries related to the incident. The fire was successfully contained to the room of origin. A damage assessment is underway, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

To maintain emergency coverage, UFD recalled off duty personnel. UFD extends its sincere appreciation to Box 13, Champaign County Dispatch, JSP Fire Department, Macochee Joint Ambulance District, and the West Liberty Fire Department for their assistance and continued partnership.

As we prepare for the 2026 Champaign County Fair, The Urbana Fire Division has spent the past several weeks working alongside members of the Champaign County Fair Board conducting fire inspections and safety reviews to help ensure the fairgrounds are ready for a safe and successful week.

In the days leading up to the fair, our personnel will also be working with food vendors to verify that concession trailers meet all applicable fire safety requirements and confirming that amusement rides are operating in compliance with State of Ohio safety regulations.

The Urbana Fire Division is proud to partner with the Fair Board, vendors, ride operators, and other public safety agencies to help provide a fun, safe, and enjoyable experience for everyone attending this year's fair. We look forward to seeing you there!
