The Urbana Lions Club was proud to host Carla Shaw, the new Superintendent of Urbana City Schools, at today’s meeting… and even more excited to officially welcome her as Lion Carla Shaw!

Carla shared some of the exciting work ahead for Urbana City Schools, including her vision for the district. But what stood out most was her positive attitude, willingness to listen, and how fully she is already embracing our community and what it means to be a Hillclimber!

Urbana Lions Club hosted Karen Bailey, candidate for Champaign County Commissioner. She has been a long time advocate for local government. She spoke of the benefit of working alongside the current county commissioners in her current role. Thanks for joining us Karen.

Urbana Lions Club hosted Greg Mann, physician assistant with Mercy Health Orthopedics and Sports Medicine. Mercy Health can locally perform robotic assisted knee replacements often only done in large cities. He discussed how robotic assisted knee replacements have less removal of native bone, customization of knee alignment, preservation of the PCL, less soft tissue damage and as a result better range of motion and faster recovery. He also expressed the importance of living a healthy lifestyle to knee and joint complications.

Our wonderful guests at the June 24th Urbana Lions Club meeting!
A big thank you to Mindy Sunderland, owner of Mindy’s Airport Cafe, for sharing her inspiring journey of buying and running the business — from the rewards of cooking from scratch for the community to the challenges of finding great staff.
We also welcomed Lion Steve Fifer, new Zone 2 Chair and a proud member of the Northridge Lions Club for over 40 years. Steve spoke passionately about his goal of making our Zone meetings more fun and engaging for everyone.
We truly appreciate Mindy and Steve for taking the time to speak with our club!
