Please join us in congratulating Chief Larry D. Boone for being selected as the recipient of the prestigious Civil Rights Peggy Triplett Award from the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives.
Founded in 1976, National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives (NOBLE) is one of the nation’s leading law enforcement organizations, committed to justice, equity, accountability, and strengthening relationships between law enforcement and the communities they serve. The organization recognizes leaders across the country who exemplify professionalism, courage, innovation, and a commitment to civil rights.
The Civil Rights Peggy Triplett Award is one of NOBLE’s most distinguished honors, presented annually to the Outstanding CEO/Director/ Chief of Police of the Year. Named in honor of Peggy Triplett for her profound impact on law enforcement and civil rights, the award recognizes contemporary law enforcement executives who demonstrate exceptional leadership, community dedication, and an unwavering commitment to justice.
This marks Chief Boone’s second national leadership recognition from NOBLE, as he was also the recipient of the 2018 U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder Award, further reflecting his longstanding commitment to principled leadership, accountability, and meaningful community engagement.
For both Chief Boone and the City of Urbana, this award represents far more than personal achievement. It highlights the progress being made within the Urbana Police Department and the collaborative culture Chief Boone has worked to build. He has continually demonstrated the ability to be forward-thinking and adaptable, recognizing that effective policing requires evolving with the needs of the community while also supporting and empowering officers and professional staff alike.
Chief Boone has consistently focused on highlighting areas where growth and improvement are possible in a way that is constructive, uplifting, and inclusive. His leadership encourages open dialogue, shared ownership, and meaningful participation from community members, officers, professional staff, and stakeholders alike, creating an environment where everyone has a voice in helping shape positive change.
In reflecting on the honor, Chief Boone shared:
“I am honored by this award, but any success attributed to me is truly a reflection of the outstanding rank-and-file officers and professional staff I have the privilege to serve alongside.”
Chief Boone and the Urbana Police Department would also like to share our appreciation to NOBLE and its Civil Rights Committee for selecting him for this distinguished recognition.
This honor is a reflection of Chief Boone’s character, vision, and steadfast commitment to service. Congratulations again to Chief Larry D. Boone on this outstanding and well-deserved accomplishment!
