🚨 TRAFFIC & WATER LEVEL UPDATE 🚨

While standing water is beginning to drain from ditches and rural roadways, that runoff is actively moving into local creeks and rivers. Expect river levels throughout Champaign County to continue rising over the next several hours (Especially in the northern part of the county).

🚘 Driver Safety Reminders:

Bridge Hazards: Use extra caution when crossing bridges. Fast-moving water and floating debris can create hazardous conditions near bridge structures.

Road Conditions Can Be Deceptive: Just because a road looks clearer does not mean all hazards are gone. Watch for mud, debris, and washed-out shoulders.

Never Drive Through Standing Water: Turn Around, Don't Drown.

Please slow down, keep your headlights on, and drive safely!

🌧️ WEATHER ALERT: Hazardous Road Conditions
​Due to heavy rainfall and continuous rain expected throughout the day, please exercise extreme caution across the area.

​Current Hazards:
-​Widespread standing water on roadways
-​Creeks and drainage areas beginning to swell rapidly.

​Safety Recommendations:
-​Stay off the roads unless travel is absolutely necessary.
-​Never drive through standing water. (Remember: Turn Around, Don't Drown—just a few inches of moving water can sweep a vehicle away).

Remember the movie Dennis the Menace? Remember Switchblade Sam? (Yep...that was his name, which is way cooler than my nickname of Squints.) The guy gave an entire generation of kid's stranger trauma. (He also ruined canned beans for everyone.)

Now imagine Switchblade Sam pretending to be a 15-year-old on Snapchat...chatting with your child.

The difference is, unlike in the movie, there aren't just one or two Switchblade Sams online. There are thousands of predators pretending to be kids, manipulating, exploiting, and victimizing children every single day.

This isn't fearmongering. It's reality.

When we investigate online child exploitation cases, it's rarely just one offender targeting a child. More often than not, its multiple people exploiting the same victim.

Please protect your kids. Have regular conversations with them about online safety. Know what apps they're using, monitor their online activity, and if at all possible, keep them off social media until they're mature enough to handle the risks (which is not 12 years old).

A few uncomfortable conversations today can prevent a lifetime of trauma tomorrow.

Does anyone know what this game is actually called? Whack-a-bell? Yeet the Hammer? Hammer-Based Stuffed Animal Procurement System?

Today, the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office had the privilege of recognizing several deputies, officers, and employees for their outstanding work and dedication throughout the past year.

These awards highlight just a few examples of the phenomenal work being done by our employees every day. Their dedication to the Sheriff’s Office - and more importantly, to the community we serve - is something we are incredibly grateful for.

Champaign County (IL) – The Champaign County Sheriff’s Office is proud to be one of over 200 law enforcement agencies across Illinois participating in the “Click It or Ticket” campaign leading up to the Labor Day Holiday.

August 14th through the early morning hours of September 8th

Deputies will be out in force, focusing on enforcing seat belt laws and reducing other dangerous driving behaviors.

Buckling up is the most effective way to prevent serious injury or death in a crash. Everyone in the vehicle - front seat or back -should be properly buckled, every trip.

Deputies will conduct high-visibility enforcement day and night, focusing on seat belt violations. Motorists who fail to buckle up can expect to be stopped and ticketed.

Today, when the price of everything seems to have gone up, there is an easy way to save some money – BUCKLE UP!

Illinois law requires all drivers and passengers to wear seat belts. While usage has increased to 93% in 2025, unrestrained fatalities remain a concern - especially at night.

The “Click It or Ticket” initiative is funded with federal highway safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation.

Please join us in congratulating Brandon Reifsteck on 28 years of dedicated service with the Sheriff’s Office! 👏

We are incredibly grateful for Brandon’s many years of commitment and service to our community, especially throughout his time in our Patrol Division.

Brandon officially finished his career with the Sheriff’s Office last Friday. While we will certainly miss having him on our team, we are excited for him as he begins this new season of life.

Thank you, Brandon, for 28 years of dedication, service, and commitment. We wish you all the best in your retirement and in the years ahead!

Let's not enrage the village page by getting your car blasted on it before 8 a.m. on a school day for speeding in a school zone.

All it's going to do is fuel a 200+ comment section full of traffic experts, internet sleuths, a random sovereign citizen quoting some obscure 18th-century law of the sea, and a few people talking about something completely off-topic, like why is Casey's always out of breakfast pizza.

Slow down. School's back in session, and we'll be out conducting school zone traffic enforcement. Don't say we never gave you a heads up.
