Storm Damage Update (Friday, August 14, 2026)
After several days of work following Tuesday’s storm event, AES Ohio crews have largely completed power restoration within the City of Urbana. However, a few streets remain blocked as some limbs still need to be cleared from lines by utility crews before the streets can be reopened. With power now being restored, utility crews will be able to shift their focus to clearing these lines in the coming days. Behind the scenes, city staff will continue to work with utility crews to coordinate these efforts and to ensure that all streets are back open soon.
In addition to the remaining street blockages, the Simon Kenton Trail between Miami Street and South Edgewood Avenue is currently closed due to limbs/fallen trees blocking the trail. Furthermore, the section south of Urbana between State Route 55 and Hickory Grove Road is also closed due to limbs/fallen trees. These sections will be reopened as soon as these trees/limbs can be cleared.
Oak Dale Cemetery also has been impacted by storm damage, and cleanup efforts are in progress.
Next week, from Monday, August 17, 2026 to Friday, August 21, 2026, the City of Urbana Street Department will be picking up brush from the storm. Residents are encouraged to place their brush curbside* as soon as possible to ensure collection with the last pickup scheduled to occur on Friday, August 21, 2026. In addition, the City of Urbana’s Compost Facility at 1263 Muzzy Road is open 8:00AM-4:30PM on Weekdays and 9:00AM-3:00PM on Saturdays. Special hours for the compost facility are also being offered this Sunday, August 16, 2026 from 9:00AM-3:00PM. Following this storm event, the use of the compost facility is being made available to residents with no cost to use the facility.
We appreciate your patience and cooperation as our community continues to cleanup and recover from this major storm event.
Reminder:
*Storm debris must be 4’ or shorter in a pile with the limbs in one direction. The pile is to be placed along the curb. (Please do not block sidewalks or gutters)
