Children are invited to grab a book and practice their reading skills with the help of a furry friend. Join retired Urbana City School teacher, Miss Sleeper and her dog Tickles. Dogs make great listeners, and reading out loud to them can improve reading comprehension and confidence.

Beau accompanies Nancy Schmelzer during her consultations with patients. Beau is certified through the Alliance of Therapy Dogs. Is your craft table buried beneath a mountain of leftover supplies? Are you looking to declutter materials that no longer spark your interest, or have you received craft items that you won’t use? Let your leftovers become someone else’s treasure! Join us at our Craft Supply Swap at the library! (Puzzles will be included in this swap also.) November 7 from 10:00-11:00 am*

Donations will be collected in advance on Thursday, Nov 5 from 9:00-8:00 and Friday, Nov 6 from 9:00-5:00. Those who donate items during these times will receive an "early bird" ticket. The swap will be on Saturday, Nov 7th with "early bird" access from 10:00-10:30 and general access to all from 10:30-11:00.

Even if you do not wish to attend the craft swap, you are welcome to make a donation. We understand, sometimes you need to clean things out but do not want to throw them away. We will find someone to love them! This will NOT be a one-for-one system. Items will be in the meeting room for everyone to look through. Only bring items you are comfortable with letting go.

Items may be dropped off during the designated times (watch for directional signs). Bring all of your easy-to-carry leftover craft supplies: Yarn, buttons, different types of paper, ribbon, fabric, googly eyes, glue, tape, felt, twine, etc. Items must be in clean and usable condition. Puzzles will also be included in this swap. If you know pieces are missing, please place a note on the item. Any items left at the end of the swap will be used by the library, donated, or discarded. No registration required.

Be sure to bring bags for taking your new treasures home! All items will be FREE during the swap. We ask that you are considerate of others as you pick your treasures, but if you stick around to the end, you are invited to take as much as you want!
