Last night, Bridget Carberry Montgomery - Urbandale City Council and I attended the final report on the Project Uplift study. The most insightful finding is that a small monthly investment in a family has a causal impact on creating hope in the future and meaning in oneโ€™s life. To me, thereโ€™s no greater gift you can give a struggling family than hope for tomorrow, agency over their today, and a sense of meaning in the world.

Congrats to boys soccer winners Waukee Northwest (4A), Hoover High School (3A), and Des Moines Christian (1A) on their state championship wins!
Congrats to Urbandale boys for their semi-final performance! What a game! As the smallest school in the conference, jumping to 4A after being the 3A champions last year, they held their own with schools twice their size. ๐ŸŽ‰๐ŸŽ‰๐ŸŽ‰

We all know this isnโ€™t ideal and we appreciate your patience. Itโ€™s best to address this issue now than have it fail in a few years and have taxpayers responsible for the repairs.

Current Update (June 5, 2026): On Monday, June 8, 2026, crews are scheduled to begin corrective resurfacing work on Meredith Drive between 86th Street and 104th Street. We have heard from residents who are concerned about the impact of this work, and we understand the frustration. The City has been working with the contractor to complete the project as quickly and efficiently as possible. To help speed up the work, the contractor is bringing in additional equipment and a second crew, which is expected to reduce the overall construction timeline.

Past Update (June 2, 2026): Beginning Monday, June 8, 2026, crews are scheduled to begin resurfacing Meredith Drive between 86th Street and 104th Street, weather permitting.

This section of Meredith Drive was resurfaced last year as part of the Meredith Drive Preservation project and is partially funded by a federal transportation grant through the Iowa DOT. As part of the DOTโ€™s standard quality-assurance process, post-construction testing found that the asphalt overlay did not meet required Iowa DOT specifications. Because of that, the overlay will be corrected.

This is corrective work under the existing project and will be completed at no additional cost to the City or Urbandale taxpayers.

The work is expected to include milling and resurfacing the asphalt overlay. Meredith Drive is expected to remain open during construction, but drivers should expect lane closures, traffic shifts, and delays. Crews currently plan to complete the four-lane roadway one lane at a time. Each lane is expected to take about two days: one day for milling and cleaning, followed by one day for paving. The full resurfacing work is expected to take about eight working days, depending on weather and field conditions. Work is expected to begin at 86th Street going westbound in the outside lane. We encourage drivers to seek an alternate route during this work.

We also know some residents have been waiting on grass restoration. This project is still open and final restoration is ongoing. The City will continue to work with the Contractor to complete the remaining grass restoration as part of project closeout.
