🚧 86th Street & Douglas Avenue: Temporary Lane Closures
CURRENT UPDATE: Sept. 2, 11:00 AM: Crews need a little more room than originally anticipated to safely access the sewer manhole at 86th Street and Douglas Avenue. Both westbound-to-southbound left-turn lanes at 86th Street will now be closed while the work is underway.
Drivers traveling westbound on Douglas who need to head south should turn left at 83rd Street instead of 86th Street. Public Works is placing message boards at 79th and 83rd streets to help direct traffic.
In order to do this work safely the repair will take longer than originally anticipated. Crews will leave the intersection by 3 p.m. today to avoid the evening rush hour, return at 9 a.m. tomorrow, and are planning to have the work completed by 3 p.m. tomorrow.
Past Update:
🚧 86th Street & Douglas Avenue: Temporary Lane Closures on Wednesday, Sept. 2.
Seeing traffic control going up around 86th Street and Douglas Avenue? Here’s what’s happening:
A contractor will be repairing a sewer main beneath the intersection on Wednesday, September 2. This work is separate from the planned three-lane conversion on Douglas Avenue farther east.
The sewer repair is trenchless, so crews will not need to excavate the intersection. However, the access manhole is located in the middle of the northbound lanes, which means a few temporary lane closures are needed while the work is underway:
* One of two northbound through lanes
* One of two westbound-to-southbound left-turn lanes
* One of two southbound-to-eastbound left-turn lanes
The intersection will remain open in all directions.
The contractor is scheduled to begin after the morning rush hour. If everything goes as planned, the repair should take only several hours and be completed before the evening rush hour.
