Today, we honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation. Their courage, dedication and love of country secured the freedoms we enjoy every day.

As we gather with family and friends this Memorial Day, let us also take time to reflect on the true meaning of this day and pay tribute to those who never came home.

Oneida County will never forget the sacrifices of our fallen heroes and the Gold Star families who carry their legacy forward.

May we always honor their memory with gratitude, respect and patriotism.

All Oneida County Government offices are closed to the public today in observance of the holiday.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and Oneida County Government has been focused on promoting wellness, encouraging self-care and supporting mental health awareness in the workplace and across our community.

County employees have participated in a series of mental health and wellness activities that included behavioral health resources, self-care information, aromatherapy bags, wellness swag and walks around County facilities to encourage movement and connection during the workday.

To further raise awareness, the County Office Building and parking garage in downtown Utica have been illuminated green throughout the month as a visible reminder that mental health matters.

Oneida County remains committed to fostering a supportive environment for employees and residents alike while continuing to encourage conversations that help reduce stigma and connect people with resources and support.

In partnership with the Community Foundation of Herkimer and Oneida Counties, Oneida County is seeking applications from local nonprofit organizations for programs that address the unique needs and challenges of at-risk youth and provide meaningful services which help to reduce acts of violence among youth.

The Oneida County Youth Investment Initiative invites nonprofits to apply for $25,000 to $450,000 to expand existing programs or create new programs that foster positive youth development, strengthen community ties, and reduce factors that contribute to youth violence. Preference will be given to programs that involve collaborative partnerships and demonstrate innovative approaches to prevention with other nonprofits, schools, law enforcement, and/or local government agencies.

Applications will be accepted from May 13 – June 30, through the Community Foundation’s Grant Application Portal.
