Henry J. Kaiser (1882-1967) and his family moved from Germany to Whitesboro in 1889.
Henry, at the age of 13, worked in a Dry Goods Store in Utica and made $1.50 per week.
During World War II Henry J. Kaiser developed the method to manufacture ships quickly by manufacturing the ships in sections and welding the sections together.
Henry constructed homes near the plants so workers were near the manufacturing sites.
Near San Francisco, he constructed a city of homes to house 30,000 people.
He manufactured the Liberty Ships that were used to ship supplies to our armed forces in Europe and the Pacific.
Henry developed Liberty Ship manufacturing sites in Maryland, Georgia, Louisiana, and California, producing 2710 cargo ships faster than U-Boats were sinking supply ships. The Liberty Cargo Ships were said to be the main reason that our Army and Navy were able to defeat Germany and Japan.
After World WAR II Henry J. Kaiser got into the automotive manufacturing business, producing over 800,000 automobiles.
Henry J. Kaiser produced the Kaiser from 1945-1955, the Frazier from 1946-1951 and the Henry J from 1951-1954.
