Why Do Firefighters Respond to Medical Calls?

When someone calls 911 for a medical emergency, firefighters may be part of the response. Extra trained hands can make a difference with CPR, moving patients safely, carrying equipment, and assisting EMS personnel. A medical emergency can require teamwork long before a patient reaches the hospital. The next time you see emergency vehicles at a medical call, remember: every responder has a role in helping
the patient.

Information Release: UFPD responded to Grand Bear Lodge today for a reported fire alarm at 14:22hrs. At 14:28 the call was upgraded to a full still working fire response on Box 102 and 602, after a worker at Grand Bear reported a dryer on fire in the laundry room. At 1436 the fire was deemed to be out and all mutual aid companies were returned. UFPD crews remained on scene and ventilated smoke for approximately 30 mins. Damage was contained to the dryer. Grand Bear is still open for business.

As first responders, we see firsthand the dedication, compassion, and hard work you bring to every shift. From receiving our patients to providing lifesaving care, you play a vital role in the emergency care team. 🏠🔥 DOES YOUR FAMILY HAVE A FIRE ESCAPE PLAN?

A house fire is not the time to figure out where to go. Make a plan before an emergency happens.
✅ Know two ways out of each room when possible.
✅ Pick a safe meeting place outside, away from the house.
✅ Practice your escape plan with everyone in the home.
✅ Once outside, stay outside and call 911.
Talk to your kids about the plan and practice together. A few minutes of preparation today could make all the difference tomorrow.

🚜🌽 HARVEST SEASON IS HERE! SLOW DOWN & STAY ALERT! 🌽🚜

As harvest season gets underway, the Utica Fire Protection District reminds everyone to use extra caution when traveling on rural roads throughout our community.

Farmers are working hard to bring in this year's crops, which means more tractors, combines, and other large equipment on our roadways.

-A FEW SAFETY REMINDERS:
-Slow Down! Farm equipment travels much slower than regular traffic. Be prepared to reduce your speed.
-Watch Those Intersections! Tall cornfields can obstruct your view of approaching vehicles. Slow down and look carefully before proceeding.
-Pass with Caution! Never pass farm equipment on hills, curves, or where visibility is limited. Give operators plenty of room.
-Stay Alert! Large equipment may make wide turns or enter and exit fields unexpectedly.
-Avoid Distractions! Keep your eyes on the road and your phone put away.

-A few extra minutes of patience could prevent a serious accident.

Let's work together to keep our farmers, motorists, and families safe this harvest season!
