Sunday, August 30th, Vanderpool VFD hosted training at Lost Maples State Natural Area. Those in attendance were Vanderpool VFD, Utopia VFD, Texas State Park Police, and Lost Maples Park Rangers. Training included radio repeater usage, search and rescue tactics, Incident Command, utility vehicle usage, and trail/park familiarity. Thank you Vanderpool VFD for hosting such a great training.

Utopia VFD's monthly training was Saturday. This month we trained on our new air compressor system. This new system is shared with Vanderpool VFD and Concan VFD. This new compressor can fill our SCBA (self-contained breathing apparatus) air tanks. We use these when we are on structure or vehicle fires. We are very grateful for our mutual aid partners. Concan VFD and Vanderpool VFD are great VFDs that serve our neighboring area with excellence.

Bandera and Medina counties ARE under a burn bans.
Uvalde and Real counties are NOT under burn bans. If you plan on burning in Uvalde or Real counties, please inform the sheriff's dispatch of any burning so we don't get toned out to your property. Thank you.

Utopia VFD assisted Vanderpool VFD with putting out a large brush fire yesterday July 31, 2026 at the Kerr County line off FM 187. It was large enough that Leakey, Campwood, Hunt, Divide, and Medina VFDs assisted as well (forgive me if I missed any other department). Everyone worked well together to get the job done. Also, thank you Utopia EMS for being on scene taking care of our firefighters who needed rehab from the heat and smoke. Thank you also to those who brought extra water and food. It takes a community and we have a great community! Stay safe y'all!

Utopia VFD had training yesterday (July 25, 2026). This month's training was going over our swift water rescue skills. Utopia VFD places a high priority on training.

BURN BANS:
There are currently no burn bans in Bandera, Medina, Real and Uvalde counties. However, please always contact your sheriff's department whenever you decide to burn. This way when a passerby calls 911 to report smoke, your awesome local firefighters do not have to leave their families and/or jobs to rush to your property only to find out you're ok. Please help us by always calling it in. Also, please check the weather conditions. If wind speed is forecasted over 10 mph or we have low humidity, please wait to burn.
There is still a lot of dead/dry burnable fuel everywhere. The floods did not make dead grass green.
