**🚨 Texas Ranchers, Hunters, and Landowners: Pay Attention 🚨**

The New World Screwworm has reportedly been detected just one mile from the Texas border, prompting urgent warnings from State Representative Don McLaughlin.

This pest was eradicated from the United States decades ago, but if it crosses into Texas, it could have serious consequences for:
• Cattle producers
• Ranchers and landowners
• Deer and wildlife populations
• Agricultural operations
• Rural economies and border communities

The screwworm lays eggs in open wounds on animals, and the larvae feed on living tissue, causing severe injury and even death if left untreated.

As someone who works with and supports our local agricultural community, I wanted to share this information so South Texas residents can stay informed and keep a close eye on their livestock and animals.

Please take a moment to read the attached release and share this post with fellow ranchers, hunters, and landowners.

🌧️💧 Before & After: Petronila Creek

Just two months apart—what a difference!

Recent heavy rainfall has transformed Petronila Creek from a dry creek bed into a flowing waterway. These rain events play a vital role in replenishing our creeks, rivers, and reservoirs across the Coastal Bend.

While the recent rainfall is encouraging, drought conditions still persist throughout much of our region. Every drop helps, and scenes like this are a reminder of how quickly our waterways can respond to much-needed rain.

Please use caution around creeks, rivers, and low-water crossings, as water levels and flow conditions can change rapidly following significant rainfall.

Coastal Bend Rain Update 🌧️🌊

The rain continued across the Nueces River Basin through May 27, bringing another round of much-needed rainfall to South Texas. Several areas picked up between 2 to nearly 4 inches of rain, with some of the heaviest totals reported across the Coastal Bend and surrounding counties.

While this rainfall is helping our lakes, rivers, and drought conditions, it also means rapidly changing water levels and localized flooding concerns. Oso Creek and other waterways can rise quickly during these events.

Please remember:
• Never drive through flooded roads
• Stay away from fast-moving creeks and waterways
• Continue monitoring local weather conditions and forecasts

Current rainfall totals show just how widespread this event has been across the region. Every inch helps, but we still need consistent rainfall to recover from long-term drought conditions.

Stay safe, Coastal Bend.

The Coastal Bend is seeing a dramatic change in conditions after recent heavy rainfall pushed Oso Creek into moderate flood stage early Wednesday morning. 🌧️⚠️

While the rain is welcomed and provides some relief, drought conditions are still impacting our region and our water supply remains critically low.

Current Reservoir Levels as of 05/28:
• Lake Corpus Christi — 17%
• Choke Canyon Reservoir — 7.6%

These rapidly changing conditions are a reminder of how dynamic and unpredictable our watershed can be. Please stay weather aware and practice flood safety:

⚠️ Avoid waterways during heavy rainfall
⚠️ Never drive through flooded roads
⚠️ Stay clear of low-water crossings

Remember: Turn Around, Don’t Drown. 💧

The Nueces River Basin is definitely getting a much-needed soaking. Rain totals continue to add up across the region, helping replenish rivers, lakes, and soil moisture after long dry conditions.

Check out these rainfall totals from around the basin. Some areas have received impressive amounts in just a short time. Stay safe on the roads, watch for rising water in low-lying areas, and keep the rain reports coming in.

Every inch counts for South Texas water resources. 🌧️

5/7/2026 Nueces River Authority Education Team had an awesome time visiting LaCoste Elementary School to share the importance of water conservation and protecting our natural resources. 💧

Students learned how conserving water today helps protect our rivers, lakes, and communities for the future. We loved seeing all the excitement, participation, and great questions from the students.

Thank you to LaCoste Elementary for having us out and helping spread the message that every drop matters.

5/6/2026 our Nueces River Authority Education Team had a great time visiting Ramirez Burks Elementary School to teach students about water conservation and resource protection.

The students were engaged, asked some great questions, and learned how small everyday actions can help protect one of our most important natural resources — water.

A big thank you to the staff and students at Ramirez Burks Elementary for welcoming us and helping make learning about conservation fun. Every drop counts. 💧

Yesterday was a great day at the Nueces River Authority! We had the opportunity to host Tsunami Products and welcome several surrounding cities to see their technology in action.

Tsunami Products is a U.S.-based manufacturing company that produces atmospheric water generation machines—technology designed to pull moisture from the air and turn it into clean drinking water. Their systems extract water from humidity efficiently and economically, offering a unique approach to water supply. As an added bonus, the system also produces nice, cold AC as a byproduct.

It was great to see this innovation firsthand and share the experience with our neighboring communities. Collaboration like this helps us all stay informed and prepared for the future.

A special thank you to our very own Travis Pruski for setting up this meet and greet with the company—we appreciate the effort that made this event possible.

Thank you to Tsunami Products and everyone who came out—we appreciate your time and participation!

The Nueces River Authority Education Team had a great time visiting Uvalde Dual Language Academy!

This visit was made possible through the support of the Hill Country River Region, and we’re grateful for the opportunity to connect with students and share the importance of water conservation, stewardship, and protecting our natural resources.

Thank you to the students and staff for the warm welcome—we look forward to continuing to inspire the next generation!

Today, the Nueces River Authority Education Team had the opportunity to visit Skidmore-Tynan Middle School, where they worked with 7th and 8th grade students to discuss the importance of water conservation and protecting our natural resources.

Students were engaged in the conversation and showed interest in how water impacts their daily lives and future. It’s always valuable to connect with students at this level and encourage them to think about the role they play in preserving our environment.

This visit was sponsored by Bee County GCD.

Thank you to Skidmore-Tynan Middle School for welcoming our team and allowing us to share this important message with your students.
