Garner State Park has a long and lively history of recreation. Beginning in the 1930s, the Civilian Conservation Corps Company 897 built much of the park and found plenty of ways to pass the time. Softball was a favorite pastime, but the boys also enjoyed swimming, basketball, and dancing. These traditions still echo through the park today. Visitors can still enjoy all those classic activities, but Garner has expanded its offerings over the decades. Today, the park features activities such as volleyball, mini golf, and the increasingly popular pickleball. This summer, our park volunteers are excited to teach and play pickleball with visitors of all experience levels at the Cowboy Amphitheater. Please call the park ahead of your visit to learn how you can join in on the fun. (830)232-6132. To enter the park, all guests must have a day pass. Reservations can be made through Reserve America.

🛶 Paddling Texas waters? Don’t forget the law—and your life jacket.
Whether you’re in a kayak, canoe, or on a paddleboard, you’re still operating a vessel and are required to follow boating safety laws.
✅ REQUIRED:
— A properly fitting U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jacket for everyone on board. Kids 12 & under must be wearing it.
— A flashlight or lantern if paddling after dark or in low visibility.
— Visual distress signals if paddling coastal waters (within 9 nautical miles of the Texas coastline).
— A whistle or sound-producing device—helps others hear you in an emergency.
