Seven years ago many throughout our community advocated for improved parks with Measure M funds (sales tax fund) as community improvements.

Many parks throughout our city have since been improved based on community input.

Trower Park spurred interesting conversations when additional funding requests were pursued to address some challenges and opportunities to reimagine what was possible in Vacaville’s historic neighborhoods.

Due to the dedication and persistence of resident’s, city staff, Lister Construction, artists, past & current Commissioners amd Advisors, and MANY community members of all ages, they have created a space that is the foundation of additional community service projects embracing a theme of nature and culture.

Trower Park is wrapping up a major overhaul that includes filling in the previous “liter box” to what is now a small flat field for soccer goal and defense drills, small skate ramps, misting station, zip line, walking paths, pollinator gardens, doggie dookie bag station (that’s what I call em), natural slide on top of cardboard hill (those of us who group up here in the 80’s know), toddler play area, sheltered patio seating areas, butterfly stamped concrete, wheelchair accessible merry-go-round for our kids in wheelchairs in the neighborhood, and three separate public art projects: tile mosaic with different cultural images, painted surfaces, and an interactive youth inspired sculpture of an alebrije!

On the first day, families from outside the area were enjoying the amenities.

A young man was helping several youth with soccer skills, demonstrating mentorship and youth development.

Numerous families, both traditional and non-traditional, were enjoying the evening after a long day of work with their little ones on the evening before school begins.

Trower Park or as kids first envisioned “Alebrije Park” is ready to be loved and cared for!

July 11, 2024 is a day woven into the fabric of the Vacaville Police Department -- the day we lost Officer Matthew Bowen who died while serving the Vacaville community.

Two years have passed, and while time moves forward, the loss is still deeply felt. We remember not only the exceptional officer Matt was, but also the devoted husband and loving father he was to his wife and two sons. Their sacrifice is one our department will never forget.

Today, we ask our community to join us in remembering Matt's life, his service and the legacy he leaves behind. May we continue to honor him by serving with the same compassion, integrity and selflessness that defined his life.

Officer Matthew Bowen, your watch may have ended, but your legacy endures. You will always be our brother, and you will never be forgotten. 💙
