This Fix-a-Leak Week take five minutes to track down leaks around your home. Look for drips and puddles under sinks and tub spouts indoors and hose bibbs outdoors—all indicate a leak that might just need tightening at the pipe joint.

Another great way to find leaks is to use a device that can help monitor water use, like a Flume device!

SCWA offers rebates for Flume devices to help you find and fix leaks!

Spring is a time of change with rain subsiding and the temperatures rising. You know what else can use a change? Your irrigation cycle!

Solano County temperatures quickly swing from brr to balmy.

Did you know that outdoor irrigation leaks are some of the most common types of household leaks? Even a leak as small as the tip of a pen can waste about 6300 gallons of water per month!

Help find and fix leaks around your home this week by checking your irrigation system. Your irrigation system tends to run early in the morning before you are awake, making sneaky leaks hard to spot. Try running your irrigation system while you are present to check for broken or misting sprinklers, missing emitters, or pooling water. Don’t forget to check your garden hose, too!

Remember to check your water bill for unusual spikes in water use, which could indicate a leak in your system.

Another great way to check for leaks is to use a leak detection monitoring device. Leak detection devices help you monitor your water use and catch leaks right away! Solano County Water Agency offers rebates for qualifying products, such as a Flume device.

Are you overwatering your plants? We all love our garden, but sometimes you might be pouring it on a little thick. Oftentimes we overwater our plants or our lawn without even realizing it.

Adjust your irrigation seasonally. Your plants will require less watering during the winter months and more watering during the summer months. Additionally, we recommend cycling your irrigation.

Do you notice water pooling in areas or on the sidewalk? That might mean that your plants are getting too much water and the soil cannot absorb it. Try watering your plants in shorter increments spaced out throughout the day. This will help the roots and soil absorb water more effectively.

Did you know that the plants and wildlife in your garden have a special relationship? Native plants and wildlife have evolved alongside each other. This process of evolution has created unique adaptations amongst plants and animals.

For instance, pollinating plants develop attractive blooms, fragrant flowers, and lots of nectar to attract insects or birds that will in turn drink their nectar and collect pollen when moving from plant to plant.

Help encourage this relationship by adding more native plants to your garden!

California fuchsia (featured here) is a beautiful and bright native plant that is popular with hummingbirds. Notice the elongated and tubular shape of the flower. It is perfect for a hummingbird’s beak!
