In support of the City of Vacaville’s Strategic Plan initiative to strengthen youth connections, the City continued enhancing its College Intern Program this summer with opportunities for professional development, networking, and hands-on learning.

Interns toured the Public Works Corporation Yard, Police Department, and Fire Station 71, where they connected with City employees who began their careers as interns and learned about their professional journeys. The program also introduced its first City-Wide Scavenger Hunt, giving interns an opportunity to explore City facilities outside their assigned departments and create short videos highlighting what they learned (view the full video at https://youtu.be/rNJ82oFjqwA).

The City looks forward to continuing to build on the College Intern Program in the future. View employment opportunities at CityOfVacaville.gov/Jobs.

The “dog days of summer” get their name from Sirius, the Dog Star, which historically has been associated with the hottest part of the year.

Trees can help make those hot summer days a little more comfortable by providing shade, reducing temperatures around the landscape, and potentially lowering household cooling needs.

When cooler planting weather arrives, residents interested in adding a tree may be eligible for a rebate of up to $50 through the Solano County Water Agency’s (SCWA) Treebate program.

In case you missed it...the City of Vacaville has secured nearly $15 million in federal grant funding for the I-505/Vaca Valley Parkway Corridor Multimodal Improvements Project.

Planned improvements include three modern roundabouts, ramp meters at the I-505 on-ramps, a separated bicycle and pedestrian crossing over I-505, and closure of a 1,700-foot gap in the City’s active transportation network. Construction is anticipated to begin in Spring 2027, which more community engagement planned prior to preconstruction.

Traditional lawns can require significant amounts of water to stay green through California’s hot, dry summers. Converting grass to a water-wise landscape with California native and climate-appropriate plants can help reduce outdoor water use while creating a landscape better suited to the local climate.

The Solano County Water Agency (SCWA) offers rebates of up to $1,500 for qualifying water-efficient landscape projects.

Learn more about eligibility and program requirements at www.scwa2.com.
