We are incredibly proud to celebrate our very own Trent Larousse for his outstanding impact at the 2026 Louisiana State EMS Education Conference & Expo in Shreveport! 🩺🚑

Trent went into the conference scheduled to present a single 45-minute session on human trafficking awareness for frontline healthcare providers. However, the response to his expertise was so overwhelming that his schedule quickly expanded into two 45-minute sessions and an additional, intensive two-hour presentation!

The reality of this issue is staggering: nearly 88% of human trafficking victims will encounter a healthcare professional while being trafficked. As Trent pointed out, for long-time EMS professionals, this means victims have likely been sitting in the back of an ambulance without anyone realizing it.

Trent’s dedication to changing this narrative has already sparked statewide action. At the conference, he was personally thanked by the Director of the Louisiana Bureau of EMS for his vital role in getting human trafficking resource stickers placed in the back of every single ambulance across the state.

True to his collaborative spirit, Trent shares this honor with Suh Hughart, whom he met at the FDIC conference in Indianapolis. Suh’s initial presentation inspired Trent to bring this critical material home to Louisiana. When the Bureau of EMS staff attended Trent's very first event on the topic, they took his suggestion, ran with it, and made the statewide ambulance stickers a reality.

The momentum isn't stopping there. The ultimate highlight of Trent's sessions was the flood of leaders asking how to bring his training to their own teams—including the dean of a large Louisiana community college who has requested that Trent present this vital material to his entire staff.

Please join us in congratulating Trent on this well-deserved recognition and thanking him for his tireless work to educate, protect, and forge a safer future for our communities! 👏👏

For this weeks final post for EMS week, we would like to take the time to share one of our dear friends and mentors that is no longer with us, Mr Raymond Babin.

Raymond was the true definition of public servant, an EMT, and a dear friend and mentor to Bernard when he began his company.

Raymond Babin left this life on Wednesday, June 12, 2002 after a lengthy illness. He left behind his wonderful wife – Gwen Gros.

Raymond was a Parishioner of St. Philomena Church and a member of the Labadieville Volunteer Fire Department. He served as an usher at the church and served as a member of the parish council.

Raymond worked for more than 30 years at J. Ray McDermott, Inc., where he held several jobs throughout the company.

He joined the fire department on December 6, 1972 and served as line officer, second assistant chief, board member and president of the board. He was a member of the rescue squad and served many years as rescue director.

He was certified in hazardous materials, extrication, water rescue, firefighting, and was a Nationally Register Emergency Medical Technician. He was also a CPR instructor and an EMS instructor having instructed First Responder and EMT classes.

Raymond dedicated his life to helping others. He was always willing to lend a helping hand and brought a new meaning to the word “volunteerism”.

If you have any wonderful memories of Raymond please share them.

When asked what do you feel as an instructor makes you feel most accomplished:
Just seeing a student be accomplished in their goals. Whether it’s retaining old info, learning new, becoming an EMT, it’s worth it to see them create their own success.

What would you say to a new person coming into ems?
Be open minded. Don’t always follow the path of everyone else. If you want to excel, ask. The worse question is the one that’s not voiced.
