Now that the hottest part of the summer is over, it’s a good time to adjust your irrigation controller. The seasonal adjust feature on the controller allows you to reduce watering without resetting your zones or changing anything complicated. This simple adjustment can help you save water (and therefore, money).

Today, Eagle River Water & Sanitation District Deputy General Manager David Norris and Upper Eagle Regional Water Authority Board Member and Town of Avon, Colorado Government Mayor Tamra Underwood joined Senator John W. Hickenlooper and a diverse group of local leaders, including town managers, ski resort representatives, and whitewater rafting companies, to discuss how drought and wildfires are affecting outdoor recreation, local businesses, and our mountain economy.

The conversation was an important opportunity to advocate for additional resources and support from our federal partners, while also recognizing the strength of local collaboration. When our communities and businesses are under stress, communication, coordination and a shared commitment to finding solutions can make all the difference.

We are grateful for the local leaders who continue to come together to navigate these challenges and support a resilient mountain economy.

Retired Eagle River Water & Sanitation District General Manager Linn Brooks has been focused on conserving water at home for the past 10 years. In this video, Linn shares what she and her husband have done to beautify their yard while always staying in Tier 1. This video is part of our Headwater Heroes series, which highlights local businesses, organizations, and residents who are making changes to cut back on their water use.

Did you receive an alert about a potential water leak or high use on your property? We have two types of alerts: leak alerts and high-use notifications. Leak alerts let you know that you may have a leak on your property, while high-use notifications let you know that your water use is higher than average based on historic patterns of use for your property.

If you have a leak on your property, you will need to work with a licensed plumber, your property manager, or your landscaper to remedy it. Leaks on your side of the meter are your responsibility, not Eagle River Water & Sanitation District’s.

This month, we’re beginning Phase 1 of a long-term infrastructure improvement plan in the West Vail Matterhorn area. This project is part of ERWSD's efforts to modernize aging water and wastewater infrastructure and improve the reliability of service. As part of the necessary improvement project, sections of aging water and wastewater mains will be replaced along Geneva Drive.

If you live in the Matterhorn area, please be aware that construction will take place in your neighborhood with temporary traffic impacts on Geneva Drive, Matterhorn Circle, and Upper Matterhorn Circle. Construction is expected to begin in August 2026, pause during the winter months, and resume in the spring of 2027 with anticipated completion by October 2027. Construction staging will take place at an adjacent Town of Vail land parcel. The area will be restored to existing elevations and reseeded in Fall of 2027.

Thank you for your patience and understanding throughout this project as we invest in the infrastructure that provides safe, reliable water and wastewater service to the West Vail community.

August is National Water Quality Month! Founded in 2005 by the Environmental Protection Agency and backed by the United Nations, National Water Quality Month is dedicated to highlighting the necessity of access to clean, safe drinking water for generations to come.

July water use numbers are in, and we can’t thank our community enough for their commitment to water conservation during this tough drought year. Our customers have reduced their:

💧 Overall water use from May to July by 30%
💧 Outdoor water use from May to July by 48%

Are you living like a local this summer? To Live Like a Local means shifting away from water-intensive landscaping and toward practices that reflect the natural mountain environment. Steps you can take to live like a local include:

• Strategically reducing sprinkler run times and areas
• Letting lawns go dormant
• Converting to drip irrigation or hand watering for trees, shrubs, and garden beds
• Fixing sprinkler overspray and preventing runoff
• Following the two-day watering schedule and restrictions
