Earth Day/Earth Week/Arbor Day are fast approaching.
The Columbia County Climate Smart Task Force has collaborated with Columbia Land Conservancy and the Columbia County Soil and Water Conservation District on planning and promoting a huge number of events happening in the two-week period surrounding Earth Day.

First on our list is an Earth Day Film Festival ( https://climatesmart.columbiacountyny.com/earthday .bp4txnuci4li ) on April 19th at the Crandell Theatre.

CLC will have an open house at their office starting at Noon. Two films at the Crandell starting at 1:00pm followed by a Q&A session. See the web page for more details - https://climatesmart.columbiacountyny.com/earthday .bp4txnuci4li

There are over a dozen Tree Plantings ( https://climatesmart.columbiacountyny.com/earthday .1xnsf8lhq7c6 ) planned all over the county, with trees donated by CC Soil and Water Conservation District. These are happening on different days, from April 18th to the 25th. See the web page for details about tree plantings in your community.

There are also other events posted on this page ( https://climatesmart.columbiacountyny.com/earthday .mxlfxhytvxu ) including a full day event in Austerlitz, other documentary films, roadside cleanups, and invasive plant removal.

It's that time of year again, for our spring River Street Park clean-up dates. We'll once again be removing invasive species such as Asiatic Bittersweet and Knotweed, as well as doing new plantings of many native species. We would greatly appreciate any help you might be able to provide. Let's keep our Valatie public green spaces looking heathy and beautiful!!!

When? Join us for a very special winter preparedness seminar on Saturday, February 1st from 10:00am to noon.

Where? 3211 Church St, Valatie, NY (The gym at the old Martin H. Glynn Elementary School building).

Who should come? Anybody in northern Columbia County and southern Rensselaer County. Renters and homeowners alike will benefit. Young and old.

What's going on? We'll have guest speakers with the best tips and tricks to help you save money on your home heating, including DIY things that you can do yourself. We'll have FREE small winterizing kits, FREE donuts and cider, demonstrations and vendors.

Who will be there? The Columbia County Office for the Aging will be on hand to help seniors get the help they need. We're working hard to get representatives from the utility companies. We'll have experts from the Columbia Opportunities Weatherization program, the Capital Region Clean Energy Hub, Heat Smart Capital Region, and heat pump installers. Everyone you need to get your home heating bills under control.

If you can't find a babysitter, we've got you covered. We'll have a kids corner available to keep your little ones busy while you learn.

This is a great opportunity to help you save money, in ways that will benefit you for years to come.

Our next Fall Clean-up at River St. Park is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 2 from 10am - 1pm. We hope you'll be able to join us to continue working on invasive management and trail maintenance, and thank you for supporting the park.
