📢The Public Works Office and Shop will be closed on Monday, September 7, for the Labor Day holiday. We'll resume regular business hours on Tuesday, September 8.

Solid Waste/ Baler Labor Day Schedule is as follows:
🗑️Residential trash- No change in services
🚛Commercial trash- Resumes Tuesday
🚮Baler Facility is closed to the public

The Baler Facility will be CLOSED on Friday, August 21, from 9 AM to 1 PM for staff training and equipment management. The facility will open at 1 PM for the remainder of the day. Regular facility hours will resume Monday, August 24. 🗑️

Additional dumpsters will be available outside the facility gates during this closure. We thank you for your patience as we work to improve our baler operations!

🚧Meals Ave Repaving Project & School Start Update 🚌
Please note that starting Thursday, August 20, the bus will begin picking up local children from the temporary road on the east end of the parkstrip. Let's all remember to drive the speed limit (10 mph - we know, that's sooo slow! But it's there to keep everyone safe and sound!) when traveling on the temporary road.

We have been filling the barge today with Alaska Scrap & Recycling! The barge is expected to set sail tomorrow afternoon with over 3,000 tonnes of scrap metal! 🚢 Stay tuned for details later in the week...

Please be aware that Galena Street will be closed from Faith Harbor Fellowship to Valdez Brewing starting at 5PM tonight (Friday). While Tatitlek Ave and Egan Dr remain open, the area is heavily congested with vendor vehicles and parked vehicles.

📢RECOMMENDED:
Please park north of Egan Drive (Fairbanks or Pioneer Ave) to avoid congestion near the Gold Rush Days Market.

We asked our Gen Z staff if Valdez water is bussin' or disgustin' 💧

The verdict? BUSSIN'.

(Yeah... we had to Google that, too!)

Why?
• In 2025, Valdez's three water systems collectively produced more than 667 million gallons of drinking water for our community.
• All tested contaminants were well below federal and state drinking water standards. For example, nitrate levels measured just 0.811 mg/L, far below the federal limit of 10 mg/L.
• Testing found no detectable radium or alpha emitters in the drinking water.
• Lead levels remained below EPA action levels, and the report notes Valdez has not found lead or galvanized service lines requiring replacement so far.
