Please join us all in congratulating Sr. Captain Mike Weber on his recent retirement and recognition by the Valdez City Council with a proclamation recognizing his many years of service and numerous accomplishments and accolades. Sr. Captain Weber has trained and mentored hundreds of first responders both here in Valdez and across the state. Many have gone on to have very successful careers here in Valdez and across the country.

We are grateful for everything Mike has done over the years and wish him all the best in this next chapter!

Last night for our EMS training, we were fortunate to have our Valdez Animal Control Officer Mike Clupper come and be a guest instructor.

Mike taught our firefighters and EMTs how to do rapid medical and trauma assessments of animals, how to evaluate vital signs and how to safely and properly provide CPR and rescue breaths to animals we rescue from fires or other emergencies. Our fire department has been carrying pet oxygen masks and rescue kits for many years on our fire engines and ambulances and we are always looking for more ways to serve our four legged friends. Thank you Valdez Police Department for loaning ACO Clupper to us for the training!

Happy Father's Day to All the Dads of the Fire ! 🚒❤️
Today, we recognize and celebrate the fathers who answer the call—both at home and in our community.

To the firefighters, EMTs, dispatchers, and first responders who balance the demands of serving others while being role models, mentors, and loving fathers, thank you. Your dedication, sacrifice, and commitment do not go unnoticed.
Whether you're spending today with your family, working a shift, or standing ready to respond when needed, we appreciate all that you do. The same courage, compassion, and strength you bring to the job are the qualities that make you exceptional fathers.

From all of us at the City of Valdez Fire Department, we wish you a safe, happy, and well-deserved Father's Day.

It’s been a very busy couple of weeks for training! On the heels of a week long Rigging for Rescue seminar, three of your Valdez firefighters traveled to Palmer to attend a state certified Fire Apparatus Driver Operator class for driver/pumper and mobile water supply. They had been studying hard and attending online sessions for the last month and it all culminated with 4 days of skills sign offs and a day for the state written exam and practical skills.

Palmer Fire and Rescue brought members from Valdez, Cordova and Unalaska to get certified, so that they could in turn hold these classes at their departments in the future, building professional driver operators around the state!

We are grateful to our hosts at Palmer Fire and Rescue for generously giving their time, expertise and equipment to build up the Alaska fire service.
