Through PWSC’s Construction Skills class, college students gained valuable real-world experience in framing, finishing, teamwork, and construction while helping address a storage need at Valdez High School. Projects like this create meaningful hands-on learning opportunities while strengthening partnerships that directly support our schools and community.
We are grateful to PWSC - Prince William Sound College instructor Mike Bowden and the students for their hard work, craftsmanship, and collaboration throughout the project.
As we move into the final days of our Construction Skills class, students are wrapping up work on two sheds—one here on campus and one at the high school.
Under the guidance of instructor Mike Bowden, the class is finishing the key details on the campus shed, including installing the door and trim. These final steps bring the structure closer to completion, highlighting the importance of precision and teamwork in the building process.
Work will also continue at the high school site as students move between projects, focusing on final finishing tasks. The next week and a half will be dedicated to cleanup and completion.
Over the course of the semester, students have built and strengthened skills in framing, measuring, fitting, finishing, and working as a team in real construction settings.
