The Valdosta-Lowndes Metropolitan Planning Organization (VLMPO) recently held its Quarterly Committee meetings to highlight important updates and future plans for transportation in our region.

During the meeting, members received the previous year’s annual report and officially adopted the Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP) 2050, a forward-looking roadmap that will guide transportation growth and development for the next 25 years.

The meeting was well attended by policy committee members, including VLMPO Chair and Lowndes County Manager Paige Dukes, Lowndes County Board of Commission Chairman Bill Slaughter, VLMPO Vice Chair and Mayor of the City of Valdosta Scott James Matheson, and Valdosta City Manager Richard Hardy. Their presence underscored the importance of collaboration in shaping a safe, efficient, and sustainable transportation system for the citizens of Valdosta and Lowndes County and surrounding areas.

The VLMPO remains committed to ensuring that community voices are included in the planning process, working hand-in-hand with local officials and stakeholders to create a stronger future for South Georgia.

Planning & Zoning Training Success

Yesterday, the Southern Georgia Regional Commission (SGRC) proudly hosted a dynamic Planning & Zoning Training in partnership with the Carl Vinson Institute of Government at UGA. We welcomed 29 participants from across our 18-county region, along with 5 guests from outside the region, for a day of engaging dialogue and practical insights.

Special thanks to our expert instructor Akela Wright, Compliance Coordinator for the City of Savannah, for leading the session with clarity, expertise, and real-world examples. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with participants highlighting the value of the discussions and strong room-wide engagement.
Thank you to our lunch sponsors, Greater Valdosta United Way and IPG Architecture, for providing a wonderful meal and supporting strong city planning concepts that help our local officials make Southern Georgia a better place to live.

Together, we are building stronger, smarter communities across Southern Georgia.
