Earlier today, we stopped by SGMC Health Emergency Services to recognize and celebrate EMS Week.

We are incredibly grateful for the dedication, compassion, and personal sacrifices made every day by our EMS personnel. Thank you for your commitment to serving and caring for the people of Lowndes County.

Earlier today, many of our firefighters were honored by SGMC Health Emergency Services with 2025 Trauma and Life Save awards. Their quick actions and prehospital life-saving measures played a critical role in ultimately saving a patient’s life. We are proud of their dedication, professionalism, and commitment to serving our community.

Even though the Georgia Forestry Commission has lifted the burn ban for our area, Lowndes County’s local burn restrictions remain in place due to ongoing exceptional drought conditions. While the recent rain has helped, it has not been enough to significantly improve conditions across the county.

Forestry permits and agricultural burns are not impacted by the local restrictions. At this time, open burning of yard debris, including leaves, limbs, grass, and other vegetative matter, remains temporarily restricted until drought conditions improve.

We appreciate everyone’s cooperation in helping keep our community safe.

Today we honor the strength, compassion, and dedication of all mothers, especially the moms who serve our community and the families who support our firefighters and first responders every day.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ‼️‼️‼️

Residents may notice more smoke across the area today, drifting in from active fires in North Florida. There is currently no wildfire in Lowndes County. Smoke levels can vary depending on your location and the wind, and visibility may change quickly throughout the day.

Here’s what to keep in mind:
🚗 Use caution while driving, especially in areas with reduced visibility
🚗 Slow down and leave extra space between vehicles
😷 Those with respiratory sensitivities may want to limit time outdoors if smoke becomes heavy
🏠 If smoke increases in your area, keep windows and doors closed when possible

🚫❌ A burn ban issued by Governor Kemp remains in effect for Lowndes County until further notice due to ongoing drought conditions. Please avoid outdoor burning and any activities that could create sparks to help prevent wildfires and protect our firefighters.

Emergency Management will continue to monitor conditions and provide updates as needed.
