Congratulations to Lowndes County Chairman Bill Slaughter on his reappointment as Vice Chair of the ACCG Federal Policy Committee.

Lowndes County Chairman Bill Slaughter has been reappointed vice chair of the Federal Policy Committee for the ACCG Georgia Counties. ACCG policy committees develop positions on key issues impacting county government. Those issues are later approved by the full association membership as the ACCG Policy Priorities, which guide the association’s advocacy efforts on behalf of counties during the legislative session.

We are incredibly proud of Chairman Slaughter for being reappointed as Vice Chair of the Federal Policy Committee, and for the strong impact he continues to have at both the state and federal levels.

The City of Adel is proud to celebrate the completion of a new home made possible through the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program. 🏡✂️

From application to completion, this project was made possible through collaboration between City of Adel leadership and staff, Ella Hewitt with the Southern Georgia Regional Commission, TYCO Construction, Inc., and community partners dedicated to improving housing opportunities in Southern Georgia.

The CDBG program provides funding to local governments for projects that assist low-to-moderate income residents through housing improvements that strengthen neighborhoods, expand affordable housing opportunities, improve infrastructure, and support economic development.

“I enjoy helping local communities and residents with improving the housing in their areas. The look on the residents’ faces when the home is completed is priceless and worth every minute spent making the home better than it was before. Without this grant program, this would be impossible for residents that are low to moderate income,” said Ella Hewitt, Grants Specialist.

Congratulations to the City of Adel and everyone involved in making this project possible! 🎉

WorkSource Southern Georgia recently had the opportunity to speak with Valdosta High School CTAE students about career pathways and opportunities available through Workforce Development WIOA programs. 🎓✨

Southern Georgia Regional Commission Programs Manager Urie Register, along with Tyra Howard, Business Retention and Rapid Response Coordinator, and Carmen Jones, Southeast Non-Profit Housing Career Advisor, shared information on training assistance, career development resources, educational opportunities, and support services available to youth and adults throughout the Southern Georgia region.

Through Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) programs, eligible individuals may receive assistance with:
✔️ Career training
✔️ Tuition assistance
✔️ GED support
✔️ Employment services
✔️ Transportation and childcare support

We are proud to help connect students and young adults with resources that support long-term career success and workforce readiness.

If you know someone between the ages of 16–24 who needs GED assistance, training opportunities, or career support, we encourage them to reach out and learn more about available Workforce Development services.

The Southern Georgia Regional Commission was proud to participate in the 2026 Georgia Association of Regional Commissions (GARC) Economic Development Conference held May 3–5 at Lake Lanier Islands.

SGRC’s Lindsay Ray, Associate Director of Community and Economic Development, served as Chair of the GARC Economic Development Committee and helped lead planning efforts for the conference, including coordinating topics, speakers, and the event agenda.

Lindsay also presented during the “Economic Development in Action: Regional Success Stories” session, highlighting projects and initiatives taking place in Southern Georgia communities.

The conference brought together regional leaders, economic development professionals, and community partners from across Georgia to discuss topics including housing, redevelopment opportunities, disaster recovery funding, and economic growth strategies.
