Our VMS team is in San Antonio for the PLC at Work Conference, joining educators from across Valdosta City Schools for three days of learning, collaboration, and growth. We can’t wait to bring fresh ideas and new strategies back home to VMS!

🎓🐾 Congratulations to the 2026 Valdosta Middle School Scholarship Recipient!

We are proud to recognize Raihan Mahmudul Islam as the recipient of the 2026 Valdosta Middle School Scholarship.

This $500 scholarship honors a graduating senior who attended Valdosta Middle School for all three years and who exemplifies academic excellence, leadership, and a commitment to continued success.

Raihan credits Valdosta Middle School's STEM Program with helping shape him into both an outstanding student and an independent thinker. Through accelerated coursework, hands-on engineering projects, and real-world problem-solving opportunities, he embraced every challenge and opportunity presented to him. He also shared that the friendships, mentors, and sense of community he found at VMS made those years some of the most meaningful of his educational journey.

Now a STAR Student, National Merit Scholarship Finalist, and future engineer, Raihan continues to represent the excellence that began at Valdosta Middle School.

This fall, he will continue his education at the Georgia Tech .

🏆 Beating the Odds!

Valdosta City Schools is proud to celebrate three schools that have been recognized by the Georgia Governor's Office of Student Achievement (GOSA) in its 2025 Beating the Odds Analysis:

⭐ Sallas Mahone Elementary School
⭐ Valdosta Middle School
⭐ Valdosta High School

The Beating the Odds designation recognizes schools whose academic performance exceeded that of similar schools across Georgia with comparable demographics and student populations. The analysis compares each school's actual College and Career Ready Performance Index (CCRPI) results to the performance that would be statistically expected based on factors such as poverty, student mobility, enrollment, and other demographic characteristics. Schools that outperform those expectations are recognized as "Beating the Odds."

"We congratulate the students, teachers, administrators, staff, and families of these schools for this outstanding achievement," said Dr. Craig Lockhart, Superintendent of Valdosta City Schools. "Their hard work, dedication, and commitment to excellence continue to demonstrate that our Wildcats are capable of achieving great things."

💛🖤 After 31 years of service, Ms. Orenstein is closing an incredible chapter and beginning a well-earned retirement!

Throughout her career, she has made a lasting impact on countless students and families through her work as a Speech-Language Pathologist. Her kindness, dedication, and commitment to helping students find their voices have left a mark that will be felt for years to come.

Thank you, Ms. Orenstein, for the difference you’ve made and for the friendships you’ve built along the way. We wish you nothing but happiness, relaxation, and new adventures in this next chapter!

Things got egg-citing in sixth-grade STEM this spring with the arrival of baby chicks! 🐣

Students spent the last few weeks caring for chicken eggs in the incubator, tracking changes in their journals, making hatch-rate predictions, and using candling to peek at the embryos as they developed. Along the way, they connected the project to life cycles, genetics, data collection, ratios, and the very real responsibility of caring for baby chicks.

When Hatch Day finally arrived, the excitement was too good to keep in one classroom, so the class live-streamed it for the whole school to enjoy.

It’s safe to say these tiny WildCHICKS were a school favorite! 💛🖤🐥
