September is National Preparedness Month, and there’s no better time to ask yourself: If an emergency happened today, would you be ready? β›ˆπŸŒͺπŸš¨πŸŒ€

Throughout September, Lowndes County Emergency Management will be sharing simple steps you can take to prepare yourself, your family, and your community before disaster strikes.

Each week, we’ll focus on one important part of being prepared:
Week 1: Make a Plan
Week 2: Be in the Know
Week 3: Build a Kit
Week 4: Take the Next Step

Preparedness doesn’t have to be overwhelming. One small step today can make a big difference when it matters most. What’s one thing you and your family are doing this month to be better prepared? Tell us in the comments!

Last Thursday, we had the opportunity to host the Leadership Lowndes Class of 2026 for their Local Government Program Day!

Throughout the day, the class got an inside look at county government and the many services provided to our community. The group toured Lowndes County Public Works and Lowndes County 911, visited the Historic Lowndes County Courthouse, and had the opportunity to meet with department heads and county commissioners.

County Manager Paige Dukes also gave a presentation on county services and the role of county government, helping the class better understand how the many pieces of local government work together to serve Lowndes County.

πŸ‘,𝟎𝟐𝟏 𝐭𝐒𝐫𝐞𝐬 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐲𝐜π₯𝐞𝐝!

The Lowndes County & Valdosta, A City Without Limits Scrap Tire Recycling Event was a huge success, with 3,021 unwanted tires collected for proper disposal and recycling.

This event is part of our year-round efforts to help residents responsibly dispose of worn-out tires and keep our community clean.

The program began in 2018 after staff from both Public Works Departments noticed tires being illegally dumped in ditches and along rights-of-way throughout Lowndes County.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this event a success and to our residents for doing their part to keep Lowndes County clean!
